  1. Cardinal767 - Did you order the part from Mooney or Lasar?
  2. Is replacing the back spring something a run of the mill A&P can perform, or is this something best left to a Mooney-specific shop?
  3. Seem to have a little squeak when I turn the trim wheel. If I were to remove the trim wheel cover, what type of lubrication is appropriate? Thanks! Also, I seem to recall someone made a lubrication guide, but I couldn't find the thread.
  4. Pretty cool having a Rocket available for rent in Vegas.
  5. I haven't priced the part yet, but if I don't go ahead and do it, I might just buy a kit and hold onto it to spread out the pain of the landing gear motor rebuild. I'm starting to lean towards waiting at least another year. Thanks for your feedback Jim.
  6. Looks like we probably won't be rebuilding the motor, after all. My mechanic doesn't have any experience with the no-back spring, but I'm still weighing having him do that as the potential of having it break makes me nervous (is it difficult without experience?). Those of you who have just had the spring replaced...how many hours have you been billed for just having the spring replaced? Thanks.
  7. I tend to be of the preventative maintenance camp. I was going to do the no-back clutch spring SB, but since I have about 2300 hours on my landing gear motor, I was wondering if it might just be worthwhile to put in a rebuilt motor while it was being worked on. Any thoughts? How many hours before you had your landing gear motor rebuilt and where did you have it done?
  8. At how many hours is it recommended that you pull it for overhaul?
  9. Interesting idea. How do you get that piece of silicone baffle to stay in place?
  10. Hot water with soap (not sure the brand, but Aircraft Spruce has several for planes). The important part is to finish with Collinite's No. 845 Insulator Wax.
  11. There is a slight MooneySpace connection as I started bugging Hilton/WingX to add this feature, at conventions, practically since their conception. I was at the National Business Aviation Association bothering them recently about this, as well. Finally, they emailed me a while back to tell me that the feature was finally coming and...voila. My primary interest was getting the program to put out a warning to check gear/run checklists at 1,000 ft. alt. of destination. There is also a Pebble Steel model which looks a bit nicer, but costs a bit more. https://getpebble.com/steel
  12. With headsets constantly improving, I have opted against additional noise-reducing measures that add weight. I figure by the time I get to the Zulu 5, I should be happy as pie.
  13. We are a "family" in the way a cult is a "family."
  14. Extremely nice. Also, like the BMW paint scheme.
  15. I switched to LED and I think it's easier to see.
  16. I use the standard antennas. The unit itself is in the "hatbox" area and the gps is suctioned to the rear-passenger window. I have never had problems with gps signal since I started using the Skyradar supplied gps, whereas I did when I used the GNS 5870 made for the iPad. XM weather is slightly higher resolution and you do not get satellite imagery, echo tops or lightning information. You do get radar, METARs, TAFs, TFRs, SIGMETs, AIRMETs and Pilot Reports.
  17. The least expensive, high-value improvement I ever did. The difference afterwards was substantial (in terms of smoothness) and I guess I picked up half a horsepower in added efficiency.
  18. That is the exact combination I use (even with AHRS). It has been rock solid for me. I only wish I had ADS-B out, so I could get all the traffic. It's been great getting weather in the cockpit. I used to have both ForeFlight and Wing X, but I let the ForeFlight expire. The AHRS is more of a toy/gadget, but it does work as advertised.
  19. Do we really know Ovations are going to cost 750k? Just curious as I didn't hear that when I watched the video. Also, he mentioned Mooneys as complex trainers (in the China video), so maybe they do have a less expensive model in the pipeline?
