MATTS875 Posted September 8, 2011 Report Posted September 8, 2011 Have anyone of you disconnected the PC wing leveler? If so how did you do it? I looked for a breaker and did not see one or fuse. thanks for the advice Quote
scottfromiowa Posted September 8, 2011 Report Posted September 8, 2011 Just pull the button out of the yoke. It's vacuum based. That's it, you are done and PC is disabled. Quote
tony Posted September 8, 2011 Report Posted September 8, 2011 The control is pneumatic and the button on the yoke is actually a value. It runs off the vacuum pump. I like my PC but for those that don’t, I have heard of them wrapping a piece of Velcro around the yoke disconnect. Quote
N601RX Posted September 8, 2011 Report Posted September 8, 2011 The older ones are pneumatic and pulling the button out will disconnect them. The newer ones have an electerical push button that disconnects them. Use a 35mm film can, large rubber band, velcro, ect Quote
bcconsult21 Posted September 8, 2011 Report Posted September 8, 2011 Is it legal to disconnect or is it required in the certification? Quote
Shadrach Posted September 8, 2011 Report Posted September 8, 2011 The original airframe was certed without PC. The wing has adequate dihedral to make for a pretty stable platform in its own right. I cannot imagine any logical reason to remove or permanently disable the system unless it was being replaced with a modern AP. Quote
scottfromiowa Posted September 9, 2011 Report Posted September 9, 2011 I agree Ross. If you are not in maneuvering flight the PC is wonderful. With the electric switch disconnect I no longer have to "hold the button", but when I did this was no big deal. Sometimes I would just turn with it on. Force is no big deal. My Accu-Trak really works well tied into the GPS. When trimmed the system works very well. If you do pull it the "cans" are worth some money on Ebay... Quote
kerry Posted September 9, 2011 Report Posted September 9, 2011 If it is an electric one I know a guy in California that repairs them. The pathfinder m2 (the m stands for mooney) is the same as a pathfinder p2 except the m2 has the disconnect switch on the yoke. My plane has a p2 in it and wasn't functioning when I bought my mooney. I sent the turn coord, amp and control box to California which cost about $500 for repair. It's the only AP I've ever had but I'm very happy with it. You might be able to convert an m2 into a p2. I know the p2 is STC'd for the mooney. Quote

N601RX Posted September 9, 2011 Report Posted September 9, 2011 I have read something from Mooney that said they would not annual an aircraft if it came from the factory with one and had been removed. I don't remember if it was something Stacey posted or if it was Brian Kendrick. I would e-mail Stacey, or talk to a couple of the better MSC before removing it permently. Quote
