Where to mount GDL-39

I have a 63 C model and I am installing a GDL 82 for adsb out and a  GDL 39 for in. Does anyone have and ideas for where to mount the GDL 39?

You can get external antennas for the GDL 39 so you can mount it anywhere you like, if the right side of the glare shield isn't good for you.

I screwed mine to the right side of the wheel well below the flap pump lever and used barewire and adapter to plug into old dme antenna.  Works amazingly well with external antenna.

I put mine in the hat rack with external antennas suction cupped in the rear window. I use 12V power via my battery minder lead to the battery, with a 12V socket plugged in to that lead.

For a few months before a major panel upgrade, I had my gdl-39 wired to ships power just under the glare shield. A vent hole was just right for the antenna to be up. Worked great.

purchased an antennae extension from fry's,  garmin external gps antenna from spruce

mounted the gdl39-3d to the floor between the two seats.  works great.

Mine just sits on the glare shield.  I feel so “un-fancy” now....

Thanks for all the ideas I think that the remote antenna is the best way to go.

Mine sits perfectly on top of the nose wheel hump with a strip of Velcro that keeps it from sliding around on the carpet.

I have an external (belly) ADSB antenna, and my GDL-39 is hard wired to a Garmin Aera portable.  In that configuration it displays traffic and weather on the Aera which then tells me audio like “Traffic! Traffic!”  and “Obstacle! Obstacle!” through my headset.  It also uses the WAAS GPS signal from the Aera to Bluetooth to my iPad.  It’s an amazing setup for only about $1000 (although the new Aera660 is a bit more.)

Let Andy talk you into a 660 panel mounted and hardwired to your 530w / gdl 39. It will fit into the old 496? spot perfectly.

No talking into needed lol...Already moving that direction.  Yes the dimensions on the Air Gizmo are identical for the Aera and the existing 396.  Just need to learn about the remote antenna for GDL 39 and power cable options for power on both.  I was Using a plug into the cigarette lighter with a dual cable on 696/GDL 39 in other plane.  Worked seamlessly.
