New Member here and this is my first time using so here goes.

When installing a remote compass for the HSI in a pre J model Mooney where do installers usually mount the flux valve (Magnetic Azimuth Transmitter) Honeywell KMT 112?

Thanks

I understand the gyro is mounted on the avionics shelf in the back but were is the flux valve.  This item is approx 3 to 4 inches in diameter and appox 3 inches tall with a rounded cover..

I just had an HSI installed and I think they put mine in the right wing quite a ways out towards the wing tip.  I can check with my shop to be sure.

Where in Fort Worth are you based.  I fly a 63 C model out of Spinks (KFWS).

I believe left wing was the factory location for J+ models. Less chance of interference in the wings (from antennas, motors, etc. ) but it needs some distance from a strobe power supply.

Right wing about 2/3rds out. I installed an KMT112 there for my Sandel Sn3308 install.

What if you have electric speed brakes?

I have a King HSI.  Flux dome as you described is in the tail, maybe 2’ aft of my battery.  Right next to my AP pitch servo.  Perfect location.

Roll servo is in my left wing.  I hear right wing is a good place for one if your strobes are well grounded.

Welcome aboard, Chub.

Your question came up the other day as well.

Complex questions can often take a week to get complete answers...

The search function can cut a week out of your wait...:)

In modern Mooneys with BK HSI... the electronic compass device is in the copilot wing about half way out...

If you want to see where it is in other Mooneys... the access panel will have brass colored rivets holding the panel in place...

Best regards,

I asked the shop that did my install recently and this was their response:

"Normally in an area away from electromagnetic interference, autopilot servos, antennas, speakers, power cables, flap motors, strobes, rotating beacons, so leaving outer sections of wings or tail as best choices."

Thanks to all that replied.  Great information.

Jet Drive = I am installing the same thing.   A Sandel 3308

Greg Ellis = I am at Hicks Airport.   Just move over from GPM last week.   My Cessna 120 is also there at Hicks.

Jetdriven,

Thanks for the photos.  as they say a picture can describe a thousand words.   I will start working on a like bracket for the flux valve (not to be confused with the flux capacitor)
