NotarPilot Posted July 17, 2018 Report Posted July 17, 2018 Does anyone have experience landing at the El Mirage dry lake bed? Do you need to get any kind of permission in advance? I’ve seem videos of planes doing it. Just wondering what’s needed to be kosher. Quote
kmyfm20s Posted July 17, 2018 Report Posted July 17, 2018 Where is it? Is it marked on a sectional? Quote
kmyfm20s Posted July 17, 2018 Report Posted July 17, 2018 If this is the same place it says you can land planes there. https://www.blm.gov/visit/el-mirage-ohv-area Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted July 17, 2018 Report Posted July 17, 2018 (edited) And it looks like airplanes have the right of way. Good luck with that. You have to contend with young men on fast vehicles trying to text the selfy they just took! I should know, I have one. Young man with fast vehicle that is. Edited July 17, 2018 by N201MKTurbo Quote
cliffy Posted July 18, 2018 Report Posted July 18, 2018 Landed there many many times but 45 years ago. Make sure it is DRY! If its the least bit wet you'll regret it. Watch out for deep car tracks made when it was wet. Lots of military drone testing around there. Quote
gsxrpilot Posted July 18, 2018 Report Posted July 18, 2018 Me landing the 252 on a dry lake bed... a little further north. Quote
NotarPilot Posted July 18, 2018 Author Report Posted July 18, 2018 Thanks for the replies. I bought my little one an Estes Rocket which you pretty much can’t launch anywhere in Kalifornia (Even though we did the other day) but I think flying up to El Mirage would be a problem free place get a few launches off without running into trouble with the KGB. 1 1 Quote
