As a new owner I'm coming up on the 100 hour (Part II) gear actuator SB/AD and am looking for recommendations on Southern California shops that have done this.  Want some confidence that they are competent to do this properly (I wonder how many know to mix 10% moly into the grease?)

Hopfully, some first hand experiences.

Thanks!

Mike, I've got the ITT actuator with the serial number that does not require the inspection, but Mike Busch recommends it be performed anyway so I've had the part II inspection twice at General Aviation KFUL. I don't know about the moly, but prior to the first inspection they spoke to Mooney and followed their instructions. I have also had conversation with John McCarthy at Crown Aviation at KMYF. Although I have not been serviced there, John and his tech shared some valuable information and appeared very Mooney knowledgeable. They are an MSC. Initially, I too was apprehensive. My plane has had a recent annual at an MSC, but more recently for convenience at KFUL. If I were in your shoes, as a new owner, I'd consider Crown even though there are many good IAs in the area.

Mike,

As for the discussion regarding proper lubrication and lubricants...

There is a lot of conversation around here on that...

Some of the old recommendations turns to rocks over time...

Some of the important lubes can fall into limited supply or be hard to get..

Using the search function may help find your latest answer...

PP thoughts only, not a mechanic...

Best regards,

Lasar will do the inspection as well if you send it to them.

They even sell the pre-mix grease too.

I’ll tackle mine on my own when the time comes next time.

Lasar did my actuator last when they changed the gearing.

Thanks guys!

KFUL is real close to KPOC

...buying the pre-mix and doing it myself with my non-Mooney A&P to sign off is also tempting.

Very nice of you to offer.  I'll let you know if I need a ride.
