What's the source of the problem with missing OAT, TAS, and Wind readouts on GPS?

On my last flight I noticed the OAT, Wind speed/direction, and TAS readouts on my GPS (GNS 480) all showed ---. What does this point to as the source of the problem? I assume there's an air data sensor unit of some kind that must have failed or become disconnected?

I've recently moved to Europe with my Encore so I want to be more proactive with understanding maintenance issues before going to a mechanic.

Your Air Data Computer (ADC) is not getting a signal to the GNS480.  Could be the ADC has gone bad, or there's a connection problem somewhere in the system. Easiest thing to do is pull the 480 and just check to make sure the pins are all in good shape, then reseat the device and see if that helps. After that, you'll have to go digging behind some access panels and start checking wiring.

Could be a quick fix...

1) Look up which air data computer you have.  (Most of us probably don't have one)

2) Check cables, use proper cleaner on connecting pins...

3) If bringing it to your instrument guy, knowing what you have and where it is installed may save a lot of time...

PP thoughts only, I would love to have an ADC and a screen to display all that data on...

Best regards,
