Jim Peace Posted June 10, 2017 Report Posted June 10, 2017 What do you guys/gals put on the face of a metal prop to keep the paint protected and prevent sun damage? I was told to use wd-40 Not sure I want to do that..... My prop is gray and just lacks the luster..... Quote
Hank Posted June 10, 2017 Report Posted June 10, 2017 I use the same thing I do on the rest of the plane--Aero Cosmetics Wash 'n Wax. Works great! Quote
MB65E Posted June 10, 2017 Report Posted June 10, 2017 Silicone paste (aka-DC4) I use on tail rotor blades to help with corrosion. Shines them up a bit. It's actually approved. It collects a slight amount of dust but wipes off really nice then reapply if needed. Looks nice. Some guys worry about WD-40 close prox to rubber in the Heli world. Also, Meguires Back to Black on black Mac props looks nice too! -Matt Quote
carusoam Posted June 11, 2017 Report Posted June 11, 2017 (edited) I've Seen a couple of covers, sunbrella style... and a prop pasty... to keep rain out of the hub. Best regards, -a- Edited June 11, 2017 by carusoam Quote
Raptor05121 Posted June 11, 2017 Report Posted June 11, 2017 If you read the Hartzell manual, they actually recommend a light layer of standard engine oil on the blades to prevent corrosion. I do this when I get done flying. Do it thin or else it will splatter your windshield on the next flight. 1 Quote

I now recall that it looked like it unevenly discolored it a bit. All those spots faded evenly. I tried my wash wax today and it looked great. I have a friend who overhauls props. I will ask him and post answers. Quote
