The seller has been emailing me over the last few weeks.  He did send me pictures of the wing undergoing repair along with pics of the logbook entries, although those were unreadable due to the poor resolution they were taken in.  I did hint that I knew something about the damage history.

He says the plane has never been “sold” as each of the auction winners could not come up with the money after winning.  He didn’t have any kind words to say about the Mooney Space forum and its users.  In fact, all of his emails had a very abrasive tone!  I suspect that has as much to do with the plane not selling as much as the damage history.

In one email, he claimed that a broker was taking over and selling it for $140K.  He won’t answer what happened with that, but keeps asking me to call him.

I'm sure he doesn't like this forum.  If you search the tail number in Google (anonymous mode- not influenced by cookies), this thread is the second result behind the Katheryn's report referencing the accident with a link to the NTSB report noting substantial damage to the aircraft.  He says wingtip damage?  If the seller's feedback is any indication, he has sold a few airplanes, but I suspect he's in a bad spot financially on this one.  Can't blame a guy when he's stressed after making a huge outlay of cash owning a plane, but I can't imagine treating potential buyers like that.

The feedback on page 2 about 2/3 of the way down this list is interesting... he sold a '94 Mooney Bravo for $119K where the buyer was apparently happy.  Transaction was over a year ago which predates the seller's ownership of this plane.

If I were in his shoes- take the plane to Longview and get an annual inspection on the plane from DMax.  Give Don free license to talk about everything he finds to anyone who is interested.  If possible, get Don to write a letter saying it appears to have been repaired properly.  The seller is looking for either A. and idiot who writes a check for $90K without thinking or B. a knowledgable buyer who sees the value in a mid $80K M20M.  Going after category A hasn't worked yet... time to go after B and make it easy- Do the buyer's pre-buy for him/her.

I hope the seller did a good job with the rebuild and that he bought the plane cheap enough that he can at least get his capital back.

it's just like others have said, if this plane was the bargain it appears to be on the surface someone like jimmy garrison would snap it up. At least I keep telling myself that.

Holy Crap- damage photos from the FAA- may have been posted earlier but I didn't see them.  Good job by the pilot getting back on the ground after getting aileron ripped off the plane.

I still can’t understand why the guy who started this thread won’t chime in.  He read my PM requesting more info several weeks ago.  He even liked the post I made earlier asking what the deal was.  I won’t repost what the eBay seller sent via email, but it wasn’t nice at all.

This was a No Reserve Auction - meaning high bidder wins it at the end no matter what it's up to. So what does he do when it doesn't reach a price he likes? He just ends the auction. He'll probably make the excuse later that someone outside of Ebay bought it and then couldn't come up with the money.

I emailed seller a couple of times and I offered him my J and $.  He answered that he was at ?k, and we were too far apart.  I'm not disclosing dollar amounts but, I prob would have made the deal had he wanted to move forward. I did offer what I considered a very fair deal considering history. Matter of fact if he contacted me back, I would still prob do it.

That's exactly what happened.  He emailed me to let me know that it sold outside of eBay.  It was almost like he was gloating.  I thanked him for letting me know and wished him good luck on the pre-buy process.  Maybe he got someone who is completely clueless.

We are the original owners of this aircraft. We bought it new from the factory in 1993. It was an amazing aircraft and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Congratulations on buying this and we hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Too cool, I looked for my uncles Mooney he had 50 years ago (brand new at the time) but never could find a tail number for it
