Hoeschen Posted October 1, 2016 Report Posted October 1, 2016 I took this Mooney on trade for my 182 back in May and been a follower ever since. Until now haven't been able to create new thread via tapatalk until now. 1968 M20C. I'm really enjoying the speed and efficiency over my 182 and the 4 seats I didn't have in my RV-9A. I would really like to dress up the interior and panel but am hesitant because I'm also building an RV-8 so I need the funds... So far love this plane though, it gets in and out pretty short and can bank on 147 TAS at 8gph. The fella who delivered to me in Fargo from Reno, could have done it in one tank, cruising at 15.5. Gotta love that. Maybe some of you know this plane and if so please chime in. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 5 Quote
DXB Posted October 1, 2016 Report Posted October 1, 2016 Beautiful '68C - am biased because I have one as well. I recognize it from the rather nice west coast videos made by the previous owner on here. Quote
Robert C. Posted October 1, 2016 Report Posted October 1, 2016 Welcome Hoeshen. What a beauty! wishing you many safe and enjoyable flights in her. Quote

He's now flying my restored 56 182 around backcountry strips in the west. Another great airplane Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1 Quote
carusoam Posted October 1, 2016 Report Posted October 1, 2016 The other José... There is something memorable about the fresh paint and prop. Some MS planes stay longer than their owners do..! Hoeschen, when you get a chance, try to update your avatar details. Best regards, -a- Quote
Hoeschen Posted October 1, 2016 Author Report Posted October 1, 2016 Great seats! Who did them? Not sure, but the copilot seat back is broke from the CFI who did my transition training; any idea where I can get it fixed?Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
carusoam Posted October 1, 2016 Report Posted October 1, 2016 There are a few discussions regarding seats and using local auto shops to get work like that done. Best regards, -a- Quote

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Who did the work should be in your log book I bet. A broken seat back? Auto shop as someone suggested if it is minor. Otherwise, I don't know - an aviation upholstery shop? Quote
DonMuncy Posted October 1, 2016 Report Posted October 1, 2016 Broken seat frames are not uncommon. Presuming yours is typical, it needs to be disassembled to get to the broken tube, but then any good welding shop can repair the break. Mine cracked at a spot where one tube pivoted within another one, so welding in a manner that keeps this movement intact is important. Quote
Hoeschen Posted October 1, 2016 Author Report Posted October 1, 2016 Define broke? About half way up the passenger seat back, the starboard side of the seat back feels like the frame is broke. I can grab the top of the seat back and move it fire and aft about an inch about the midpoint. The upholstery has a copious amount of adhesive though so in order to get a good look I would basically need to redo it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote

Yes, the foam is glued to the frame, and has to be chiseled off, might have broken when someone leaned on it to get up and out and out and put their full weight on it. However you fix it make sure it can handle that kind of stress. Quote
takair Posted October 2, 2016 Report Posted October 2, 2016 I'm pretty sure that section of seat is sheetmetal, thus requiring a sheetmetal repair. I would suggest finding an interior shop to remove the leather and foam and then have an airframe mechanic perform the sheetmetal repair with appropriate log entry. Then have the interior shop refinish. Would not go too long, the damage will get worse. Quote
