Both my com radios and my headset are set on max volume.  Transmissions are clear, but just barely loud enough to hear.  The intercom does give plenty of volume.

Not being an avionics guy, my best solution so far is to use both hands to mash the muffs tighter against my head.

Attached is a pic of my simple radio stack.  Any ideas are appreciated!

Turn up the volume on the intercom.

Try someone else's headset, yours may need work.

Make sure your headset volume is turned UP and not DOWN.

Clean wax out if your ears.

Im all out of possibilities . . .

I had a kma24 and I couldn't hear incoming transmissions very well.  intercom was fine, though.  Turned out my audio panel had a bad capacitor.  Replaced it for a few hundred bucks (5 years ago) and it was fine up until the day I sold it.

Try reseating all the radios.   Allen wrench to turn the screw in the front panel.  Pull out and push in several times.  Same thing with the audio panel.

A few questions.  Was it always like this?  Have you tried radios with the intercom off?  Do the results change with multiple headsets?  Does side tone work (not to be confused with intercom)?   Do you have music or handheld audio inputs tied in?  Try pulling the audio panel breakers and listening to comm 1, does it improve?  As I recall, this by-passes the processed audio and reverts to a pass through mode.

Co-pilot jacks blew my ear drums out. Thought I'd already tried this, so I get the bone head award.

Ill start with the jack.

Thanks folks!

My jacks are at the bottom of the panel. Standing on my head, I can adjust the tabs that contact both portions of each plug. Had tondo that once when the copilot jack appeared to have died; it was bumped as someone exited the plane, pushing the plug sideways at about 20° angle. Just a few minutes twiddling and testing fixed it. This will be much more difficult on the left side, it's not right by the door . . .

Giving a ride to 18 year old and his dad. trying to get the fan going before we all cook in the aluminum oven.   Throw on headset as we are moving.  "Can you hear me?"  "Hello"  Do the cord chase.   Hold up two plugs to him to show that you must connect the plugs to the plane to work.
