N601RX Posted May 28, 2016 Report Posted May 28, 2016 After fighting with loose batteries in the bottom of my flight bag that I can never seem to find when I need them I decided to design something to hold them. I designed it in CRE0 and then printed it on a MakerGear M2 3D printer. Complete with printed hing pin, latch and N number. I may tweek a few things and reprint. 12 Quote

I just bought the item below to deal with the same issue. Quote

carusoam Posted May 29, 2016 Report Posted May 29, 2016 Way cool. The software / printer / brain that put this together...and shared the details.... Battery holder, today. Unknown cool idea by somebody else tomorrow. Thanks for sharing, 601RX. Best regards, -a- Quote
midlifeflyer Posted May 29, 2016 Report Posted May 29, 2016 If you can find Sucrets in the plastic cases, they work quite well for AA batteries (the only ones I need in flight) after you finish with your sore throat. I understand these work pretty well too and are about two dozen for $1. 3 Quote
N601RX Posted May 29, 2016 Author Report Posted May 29, 2016 I tweaked a few things on the top cover to make it work better and reprinted it. I still need to make some changes to the latch mechanism. If there is some interest from others for these I could print up some for sale. Quote
N5756v Posted May 30, 2016 Report Posted May 30, 2016 I would be interested Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote
Seth Posted May 30, 2016 Report Posted May 30, 2016 I would be interested too, especially with customized N Numbers on each one. I currently use sandwich sizes zip lock bags as mentioned above. You could also give them out as gifts with funny power slogans on them. -Batteries not included -Power -I Have The Power -Juice -Plutonium -Liquid Shwartz -High Voltage -Transmorgafier -Flux Capacitor etc. . . -Seth Quote
DaV8or Posted May 30, 2016 Report Posted May 30, 2016 I like it. I'd buy one if the price isn't too bad. Good job on the print job! It's still fascinating to me that things can go from digital directly to solid part these days. 1 Quote

N601RX Posted June 2, 2016 Author Report Posted June 2, 2016 There seems to be quite a bit of interest or curiosity in this project so here is an update. I wanted something that would hold both AA&AAA so added some slots for AAA cells along the front and beefed up/ recessed the latch mechanism considerably. When I get time I will go back and update the original AA only version to the stronger latch. Now it's time to print one out and give it the old drop test. I'm also in the process of upgrading my printer to use a second print head so it can use support material or print 2 of something at once so it may be a few days before I get to print the new design. 3D printing really opens up a whole new world to design. Draw it up in CAD, load it up in the printer and walk away. A few hours later and a couple of $ later your idea is a reality. 2 Quote
