I know this has been discussed, what's the best, what's the brightest or best bang for the buck?..

Anyway, I finally got around to getting my plane to the shop for a oil change and to have last year's Christmas gift installed. I just had the Aeroled 46HX (Landing light with pulse) installed. I haven't picked the plane up yet, but looking forward to checking it out. Install was very straight forward other than the normal moaning, groaning and general complaining about how tight our Mooneys are to work  on by my mechanic..lol..

As far as the switch they just removed the factory rocker switch, put a cover on and replaced it with a 3-way toggle that was purchased from Aeroleds when I got the light. On/off/pulse.

I'll post my thoughts after some night flights and general observation.

I love the AeroLED PAR46's. I installed a set in a citation. The pilots like them. The old bulbs were only good for about 100FHs...

Aero added many many aircraft to their PMA/AML. They are the best. They wanted to really make things right.

Personally, for the money, I'm happy with the Wheelen lamps. However,  they do fog over on a decent. I think Aero makes a better product.

I stopped by Aero's booth at Sun n Fun and they had the stock GE halogen lamp, the Whelen model and the Aero model on a comparison bench, pointed at the roof. Both LEDs were significantly brighter than the incandescent, but Aero's utilized a quad reflector design which was much much more effective in overall candlepower.

I also really really like their wingtip LED lights as well, with the doubleflash whereas the Whelen models just blink once

I like them both, I'm just allergic to the full AMU price tag plus installation. So for now, I just have the dim incandescent red/green wingtip lights.

The HX has the option to wire as wig/wag or pulse depending how your plane is set-up.

From the website:

The PMA’d SunSpot 46 HX was designed as a PAR 46 replacement with a built in “wig-wag” or “pulse” feature that can be activated by connecting aircraft power to the pulse (yellow) wire.  See the incandescent bulb cross reference guide to determine which GE bulb can be replaced with the SunSpot 46 HX.  The SunSpot 46 LX has both landing and taxi optics incorporated into the light.

As far as pricing they are very proud of them. If it had not been a Christmas gift from the family I'm sure I would still be sporting the OEM light.

Hopefully a Pirep with a picture or video this weekend. It looks to be a great weekend to fly.
