bonal Posted December 9, 2015 Report Posted December 9, 2015 I think everyone has different experience I definitely don't work for AOPA but they have been very customer friendly And affordable even as a low time pilot. The agents I have dealt with were informative and polite documents sent email as we spoke. I have never filed a claim and I hope I never have to find out that side of the business. My customer service with them has been great. 1 Quote
MyNameIsNobody Posted December 9, 2015 Report Posted December 9, 2015 Customer service can NEVER have a bad day...Unless you are Garmin. Quote
jlunseth Posted December 9, 2015 Report Posted December 9, 2015 I also use AOPA. I have never had trouble with their customer service, and that includes one claim and several requests for additional named insured certificates for instructors, etc. I tried several others and they were all quite a bit higher. So AOPA has won my business. 1 Quote
PTK Posted December 9, 2015 Report Posted December 9, 2015 AOPA insurance has excellent customer service but Garmin is the best. 1 Quote
ArtVandelay Posted December 9, 2015 Report Posted December 9, 2015 AOPA insurance has excellent customer service but Garmin is the best. I've had to deal with both, AOPA for service requests, and Garmin for a problem, no issues. And no I don't work for either. 1 Quote
cnoe Posted December 10, 2015 Author Report Posted December 10, 2015 +1 for AOPA Insurance Services. My renewal starts this weekend and I switched from AIG to Global and saved $547 this year by making the switch. What's even crazier is that Avemco was $1,166 MORE than Global (more than double)! FWIW I'm relatively low-time @ ~600 hours with 400+ time in type with a Instrument Rating and no claims ever. Obviously Avemco doesn't want my business. 1 Quote
jlunseth Posted December 10, 2015 Report Posted December 10, 2015 Hmm. The Garmin people are nice, yes, but the very expensive radio in my 430AW has never been right even though it has been back to Garmin for whatever they did to it. The AW was an extra 3 grand for a 16W radio, but I often lose contact with ATC at turbo cruising altitude especially if there is weather around. I switch to my ancient BK Comm 2 when I need a good radio. Others with the same radio have had the same problem. I was even down at a Garmin seminar in Olathe, talked to them in person, the problem has never been cured. The radio works for most things, but it sure was not worth the 3 grand for the 16W. Quote
MyNameIsNobody Posted December 10, 2015 Report Posted December 10, 2015 I knew there would be a lot of AOPA love. Good. My specific incident is/was years ago now and involved almost the exact scenario that the guy experienced with Falcon. There was a HUGE reluctance to "shop" my coverage by AOPA. The AOPA contact might of been having a bad couple of days, but I wanted other quotes to compare pricing vs. my renewal price and wanted to give them my business. I was met with an "attitude" vs. providing me, the customer, with options. I found options elsewhere. I learned of Falcon from MooneySpace. My business is handled out of Kerrville. Just providing balance to the anti-Falcon thread. I understand that others have had positive experiences with AOPA. So did I...until I didn't. Nice to have options. I wonder why AIG is "getting out of the Mooney business" based on their negative renewal pricing? Competition is good in insurance and ALL things. We, the consumer win when there is choice in the market. Good thread on the 480 vs the 430 and UPS getting bought/killed. I hope AIG, as a player, is not "getting out of the market"... Anybody know how aviation companies are doing? I would love to see a graph with marketshare by top players and combined or Loss Ratio's. 2 Quote

Jerry 5TJ Posted December 10, 2015 Report Posted December 10, 2015 When the annual insurance renewal comes up I get several quotes from the broker. Happens to be Falcon. I ask which of the companies is easiest to deal with and go with their advice. My goal is to carry the most smooth liability coverage I can get from the insurer easiest to work with. Cost is third in my priority list. Quote
PTK Posted December 11, 2015 Report Posted December 11, 2015 $1504.00 for 1 million smooth with $120K hull from USAIG through AOPA. 1 Quote
JohnLand98 Posted December 1, 2020 Report Posted December 1, 2020 1700 for 1 million liability with 180k hull with global aero with falcon. recently had a claim, the adjustor is difficult to deal with/haggling back and worth and haven't come up a solution yet and it has been 2 month since the incident. would not recommend them based on my experiences. carusoam Posted December 2, 2020 Report Posted December 2, 2020 Welcome aboard JL! Brief reminder... this thread is a bit aged... some financial inflation may have occurred since many of these posts were written... There is a very similar thread... with more current info... Best regards, -a- Quote
Hank Posted December 2, 2020 Report Posted December 2, 2020 This is it, started barely a month ago with the newer, higher rates. That's the "creepy" part of the thread, not the insurance guy himself. My rates are up almost 50% in two years, and would be higher had I not changed from Falcon to Airspeed. No claims ever, almost 1000 hours, pushing 900 Mooney hours . . . . . Airspeed Insurance = @Parker_Woodruff Quote

If that is 1 million smooth liability coverage as opposed to split limits that’s a darn good premium these days. Quote
