Greg1 Posted September 11, 2015 Report Posted September 11, 2015 My 1994 M20J POH in the Normal Procedures section states "Do not operate engine at run-up speed unless the oil temperature is at least 75 degrees F. (needle moves off White dot). My Oil Temp guage doesn't even read below 150 degrees and has no white dot. Do I have the wrong guage installed or am I just supposed to estimate when I've reached 75 degrees? Quote
ArtVandelay Posted September 11, 2015 Report Posted September 11, 2015 How about a white line? Where does the gauge read when at operating temperature? Mine is somewhere past the middle. Do you not have an engine monitor? Can you attach pix of your gauge? Quote
Greg1 Posted September 11, 2015 Author Report Posted September 11, 2015 The first mark on the guage is the white line depicting 150 degrees. It usually reads right about 150 degrees at takeoff. During cruise, 180 degrees is typical. I have a JPI engine monitor, but the oil temp feature is not enabled. I'll take a picture of the guage the next time I'm at the hangar. Quote
ArtVandelay Posted September 11, 2015 Report Posted September 11, 2015 I'm not familiar with the 90's Js, but if you wanted oil temp to the JPI it's $195 + labor. Looking back I see it takes about 3 mins at an OAT 40 for the OT to reach 75, and was above 100 in 5 mins. Quote
jetdriven Posted September 11, 2015 Report Posted September 11, 2015 The older J models have a white dot that is basically a hair breadth up from the zeroed out indication on the oil temp gauge. It's my understanding later models eliminated this dot. Anyways after 2 minutes of running the oil temp will be above 75 F. My gauge won't move off the white dot until 5 minutes after takeoff. Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted September 11, 2015 Report Posted September 11, 2015 If it is -20F it takes more like 5 min. Quote
Marauder Posted September 11, 2015 Report Posted September 11, 2015 It really depends on the outside air temp. I would add the probe. Which JPI do you have? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote
