Price reductions since 2007 for Pre 201 Mooney's

I just rejoined MAPA (after letting membership lapse for a few years) and am working my way through online back issues.  Man was it sobering to see Jimmy Garrison's evaluation for Pre-J Mooney's in 2007 vs. today.  Base price for a '66 M20E in February of 2007 was $59k...It has dropped $10k (for base) in 3.5 years.  IT REALLY IS A BUYER'S MARKET RIGHT NOW!!!

I went back and looked again.  Must be a typo as '65 was $48k and '67 was $50k.  '66 must have been $49k...that makes me feel a little better, I think?!

You know, I wasn't exactly thrilled with the value reduction, but I still like the overall value for the dollar that a Mooney aircraft provides when compared to other manufacturers.

Have to chime in...

If there was ever a time to invest (yes, I said invest) in a Mooney, this is it.

I just bought a very nice bird that I would not have otherwise been able to afford, simply because of the recession.

But, buyer enthusiasm for Mooneys has already started to pick back up... this is no time to wait.

I was one of the fortunate ones that did get a good deal on a 77 J, and I am finding that I am spending a lot more than I have planned. This is what happens when you like Mooney's. I probably will never get my money back as far as the investment goes, but I will be flying a great airplane for many years, and what price can you put on enjoyment and trying to improve on a good product and building it better than it has to be. I did however tell my AME to smack me on the side of my face if I bring any more add ons!!!

The current market is what has allowed me to purchase my Mooney. The price was very right and I have some cosmetic work ahead of me to get it looking the way I want it to. Best part is that I can do all the work myself, paint, interior and maintenance. All while building time and flying. It is a good time to buy!

Well I hope it all works out for him....hopefully when the time is right for me...something similar will come up.  Only time will tell....
