1964-M20E Posted July 20, 2015 Report Posted July 20, 2015 Anyone here use sky-vector? I have been using it for a number of years unfortunately the went and changed their interface. Now you have to open an account to use it if you want it to input ground speeds and have it remember your last route inputted. Another good thing gone bad. I really do not want or need another username and password the 60+ of them I already have are more than enough. Besides with all the hacking going on why would a company want to get information that they need to protect. I liked it to do initial flight planning and get approximate flight times to my destination, pick airports, intermediate way-points etc. Quote

It still doesn't understand victor routes, the navlog is nice idea, they could expand it a bit by adding NOTAMs of airports in plan and TAF, runway diagrams, etc. I use GPilot more and more these days. This allows a hacker to enter on your accounts. When ordering with credit card I never use the internet but FAX or phone. Even though old technology, FAX is very secure and on the receiving end there is no need for internet access but just to look at the paper tray on the FAX machine. José Quote

Since the prior form already existed they should just offer a button that says, "simple flight planning" and "enhanced flight planning." I did figure out that you can still manually type a speed in. I'm not surprised by the change, just a bit disappointed. They had unparalleled simplicity, many times I just used to it see how far apart to various places were. I remember when skyvector didn't have the "World VFR" functionality, so not all change is bad... 1 Quote

Lets say for example that I want to plan a trip from KSAN to KTPA. --Great Austin Tx is in the middle. How do I add KAUS without trying a random drag and drop? It doesn't seem possible. Dare I say a Garmin 430 is more user friendly. Still love the link for the wind wind. It's a great visual and fast. Quote

I agree,,, it seems that the " brief " covers the whole of the US,,, for a 15 mile flight! I liked the old skyvector.. I made plans, picked landings, saved them for review by emailing them to myself, and it was simple to use! Quote

Agreed which is why I won't quote it, that is the standard brief you get from Duats system, you get the same thing in Garmin Pilot, which is why I don't ask for briefs any more, I just go to my individual airports I'm using to get WX, NOTAMs, etc Quote

I havent been an active pilot since 1989,,, soooo never saw a computer brief before. Must be this "ready to sue for anything" brave new world, that now a brief contains EVERYTHING!! like my flight from Tacoma to Bremerton might deviate over Miami, the mid west or Alaska! I might need to know!!!! Really now,,,, do ALL the computer briefs, just tell you Everything??? Not really BRIEF,, at all,, Ever? Quote

Garmin Pilot also offers the terminal weather which includes the pertinent weather information for your departure and destination airport. But you do get all of the weather and NOTAMs in the briefing, nicely compacted in pull down menus. Much better than the endless stream of paper print-outs from CSC or DTC (dearly departed) briefings. I used to goof around on there all the time, it's almost unusable to me at this point. Sure is a shame that people don't consider the trade offs when they make sweeping changes. I used to love the "drag and drop" waypoint functionality...and they killed it...built a drone with a heroin dart gun and a pistol, overdosed it and put on in the head for good measure. 2 Quote
