A recurring problem that sofar no A&P managed to solve properly for me - when pulling to idle upon landing with a warm / hot engine it'll hiccup and die upon rollout most of the time (though annoyingly never in front of the A&P).

 

Obviously rather annoying depending on where one lands at. And I'd rather not carry extra power all the time "just in case". Other than the Continental setup directive, any tips from the other users?

If you are landing with boost pump on, the boost pump pressure may be high causing an overly rich mixture and causing the engine to die on rollout.

 

If you are landing with the boost pump off, You may expericing heat soaking of the fuel and it turning to vapor in the fuel system before it reaches the fuel injectors. this will cause a lean mixture and the engine to die on rollout.

I  lean to 2.7 gph at taxi idle. Full rich start/idle FF is about 3.4 gph

 

Practice a few times determining how many twists of the mixture knob is required to reduce your FF from FULL RICH to your taxi mixture. On final approach when a landing is assured, adjust the mixture by twisting out the knob to the taxi setting. (Full rich is too much fuel for continued operation below 1000 RPM)

This was an issue for me in the Missile. An IO-550. It was taken care of through adjusting fuel flow one time and when in started occurring again the idle level. Have your mechanic call Tommy at Freeway Aviation (an MSC) - 301-262-6544.

Also, until I had it fixed I just leaned for landing as I would in cruise. I just knew in a go around to push the mixture in as well (all levers forward!).

I had the same issue and resolved as follows:  1.  Took A/C to TCM who calibrated fuel flow. 2. Finally overhauled the servo. The calibration help a lot but the servo solved the problem.

Correct Fuel flow calibration is important on the Continentals. Seek out one who is proficient in this and has the correct gauges to do it. If you are anywhere close to Fairhope, Al. they will get it set up right. This is something that should be checked at each annual by a competent A$P in doing Continental fuel flow setups.

Sounds like it's time to have SID97-3F complied with, as well as Mooney SI M20-107 and there is also a fuel pressure adjustment for the airframe fuel pump output pressure.
