So I sat in Galvin flight school at BFI for most of the early afternoon waiting patiently, with an hint of anxiety.....:) to get my first seat time in a Mooney. I wish I was writing this saying I was taking N1021K home with me but hopefully this is a big step in buying a pilot seat of my own. This 201 sat there finally free for me to start my preflight with instructor Jim Lilje. After a preflight it was time to get in the plane and get the engine temps up. We got our weather and clearance. after the departure to the west we had time for some steep turns, slow flight then a power off stall. After not having any seat time in about 8 months and first time in the Mooney I would say I was knocking off the rust. Then we headed to Bremerton for my first landings. And after about a year of reading Mooney Space I've taken one thing landing a Mooney separates the brand C pilots from the Mooney pilots. Well I set my speeds up and crossed the numbers at a solid 75knots and made a great landing, full stop, reconfigured then back on the throttle. Sorry no touch and goes allowed at the school:) The second landing was almost as good. 21K is a great plane and if I wasn't Mooney hooked before I will surely have dreams of them tonight..... It was a great afternoon and if the weather holds out through the morning I will be back up in N1021k from 8-10.

Bet that was fun and instructional!     Did mention Fun?

I got my PPL out of Bremerton National back in 78,   live 7 mi SW on the Canal...

At what speed did the stall break with power off?

Did you use some flaps for your landings?

75 over the #s,,,  what speed when the wheels squeaked on?   I think you were a little fast..

Ah, brings me back to almost exactly 1 year ago!

I was lucky enough to see it through to ownership and 200+ hours and an instrument ticket later I have learned so much that only reinforces how awesome these planes are!

Well after about 18 hours round trip by car to go fly N121K I finally made it home this morning about 2:30 this morning..... Sooooooo wish I had made the trip by plane. But hopefully sooner than later a Mooney will be my transportation. Monday morning we did get up in the air but had to stay in the pattern. I knocked out 7 take offs and landings, and 10 over the two days. We did head out on the Vashon Heights departure hoping we could get to blue sky but after we got out there the ceiling just wasn't working with us. So we returned and knocked out more landings. They went great. I have the plane again May 23 and 24 to hopefully finish out my check ride and complex rating. The 23rd we plan on doing stalls and maneuvers, then on the 24th we are planning a xcountry up to the San Juan Islands for an expensive lunch:) I loved the plane!!!!!!!!!! A 201 might be ahead of an E now. but I'll let her find me.

Bonal, the one stall we did was not a full stall just getting to the buffer. If we had got some altitude Monday we would of done some full power stalls. I've had spin training and Jim said it might look like that at first but just keep the ball centered and all will be well:)

After spending the morning in the 201, I went next door to the The Museum of Flight and spent the rest of the day there. It was a great weekend other than the driving allllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll the driving.....

After more than 1000 hours flying Mooneys I still think that it is a great experience. Our planes are fast, efficient and people look at us as if we were contortionists when they ask us how do we get in and out. Despite our explanation that once you are seated in the plane it is actually comfortable, many just shake their heads.

However, once you know how to fly them they are at least for me the best plane on the market.

I would say: ride them with the hands of a lady, the posture of a king and the manners of a gentleman and you will be happy.

I totally agree with how to handle them. I felt comfortable flying her and the plane was very stable, but I could see how letting it fly you could happen very fast. I'm only 5'7" and getting in and out of the plane seemed effortless, I didn't even need the windscreen support. But I could see how a bigger person might have to get the technique down. Another thing I didn't feel like the peddles were too far from me.

It was just an all around great experience flying the plane and don't know why I wouldn't buy one at this point.
