ryoder Posted March 1, 2015 Report Posted March 1, 2015 Socialism really sucks and it can't stand any scrutiny. Venezuela has now detained an American pilot on claims of espionage. http://www.cnn.com/2015/02/28/americas/venezuela-us-pilot/ Quote
Browncbr1 Posted March 1, 2015 Report Posted March 1, 2015 I don't doubt it was CIA one bit. Where's Timmy?!? Quote

Piloto Posted March 1, 2015 Report Posted March 1, 2015 If there is no pilot name likely there is no detainee. This is just propaganda trying to look powerful and smart. There is a lot of YV jets at KFXE tied down for months, wonder why. José Quote
NotarPilot Posted March 1, 2015 Report Posted March 1, 2015 Sounds like a play out of the North Korea Rhetoric Playbook. Quote
Tommy Posted March 1, 2015 Report Posted March 1, 2015 What does "socialism" has anything to do with this? Â Name me a political system / regimen in the world that NEVER detain individuals unlawfully / unethically /Â Â In Australia, we have hundreds of asylum seekers'Â children detained on a remote Pacific island. In US, you have *cough* Guantanamo Bay *cough* 2 Quote
ryoder Posted March 1, 2015 Author Report Posted March 1, 2015 Obama placed sanctions on members of the socialist government because they were guilty of human rights violations for crimes committed against their own people that were protesting their government. The people are trying to reject socialism and the big government is fighting back the way it knows best. Yes I hate socialism and think it is evil as it denies an individual his God given natural rights to private property and freedom of speech. I probably should have left socialism out of it though and said that I hate dictatorships like Venezuela. I don't like monarchies either. Democracy is the worst form of government, except all the others. 2 Quote

We got a teenage combatant (who was dragged to war in Afghanistan by his raticle father) back after years in Guantanamo, he was charged with murder after being involved in a fire fight with US forces, I thought PoW would be the correct title. Andy95W Posted March 1, 2015 Report Posted March 1, 2015 Socialism and Communism are different animals. Sweden, for example, is very socialist compared to the US, but they enjoy every bit the freedom of speech that we do. 1 Quote
Guest Posted March 1, 2015 Report Posted March 1, 2015 David, I think you may be over reacting just a bit. The one I was referring to was a child soldier captured after a fire fight with US troops. He did not shoot any unarmed soldiers who had surrended or were taken as PoW's, if he did it should not have taken more than 10 years to provide the proof to the world. The US military did not treat him as an enemy combatant, but rather a terrorist. International law conveniently doesn't apply for some reason. David, as a sworn member of the US military I'm guessing you took and oath to protect your country, is there anything in the oath to uphold law, both domestic and international as it applies to war? Just curious. Did any of those captured and brought to Guantanamo ever attack mainland USA in a terrorist act? The teenage boy didn't attack mainland USA. If they did why has it taken more than a decade to give them due process and a speedy trial. Neither the current nor the previous administration have been able to conclude the matter, I wonder why? By the way I've never voted for a Liberal government, and if I believed in hell suggesting I go there is not really your choice. Have a nice day, Clarence Quote
Guest Posted March 1, 2015 Report Posted March 1, 2015 On the contrary Dave, all lives are precious, yours, mine, the people under your command, the enemy combatants, the innocent bystanders, whether in combat zone or a drive by shooting. I think your Christian beliefs would validate that. I'm talking about a child dragged into combat by his father, don't you see that? Nowhere did I say I love terrorists or hate Americans. As I said before why is due process taking almost 15 years, if there is evidence to convict on what ever the charges are it should not take this long. A stinger up the tail pipe or an RPG through the fuselage is as destructive to the medivac helicopter as a hell fire missile or a smart bomb through the kitchen window. Neither is good either recipient. Like in your country, we have freedom to express ourselves, the fact that you don't agree with my view does not make me an idiot, a moron, or any of the other name you care to use. I've not called you any demeaning name, I refuse to. I wouldn't mind an answer to my question about your oath. Clarence Quote
Guest Posted March 1, 2015 Report Posted March 1, 2015 David, In case you're interested, do some reading on Omar Khadr, the teenage boy captured in 2002, held in Guantanamo until recently transferred to a prison in Alberta. http://blog.amnestyusa.org/middle-east/former-child-soldier-thanks-amnesty-members-after-being-released-from-guantanamo/ Clarence Quote
Mooneymite Posted March 1, 2015 Report Posted March 1, 2015 ...... Venezuela has now detained an American pilot..... Unless this pilot was flying a Mooney, this subject has little/no relevance to this board. Carry on....without me. Quote
ryoder Posted March 1, 2015 Author Report Posted March 1, 2015 Its miscellaneous aviation news. Doesnt have to be Mooney specific. Quote
ryoder Posted March 1, 2015 Author Report Posted March 1, 2015 Many of the brave men and women serving at Gitmo have had feces and urine thrown in their faces by the terrorists detained there. Quote

Until the end of the war. How long should "detainees" be held? Until the US removes all troops from Iraq and Afghanistan. There is no due process for a POW or "detainee". How much due process is Johnny providing? Spare me. Quote
gsxrpilot Posted March 2, 2015 Report Posted March 2, 2015 Just to get this back on track... :-) As we've got low clouds and freezing conditions today, I wasn't able to fly anywhere for lunch. Â Therefore I went to the local Venezuelan food truck just down the street here in Austin, FourBrothersATX, and had some amazing Arepas. They were delicious. And after all, we're quite leftist/socialist here in Austin anyway. Â :-) Quote

Just trying to clarify, so you're saying that as soon as all US troops are pulled from Iraq and Afghanistan all detainees will be released? I'm not so sure that is the current plan. US troops were withdrawn from Iraq at the end of 2011 and Afghanistan at the end of 2014. Clarence Quote

dfgreene61 Posted March 8, 2015 Report Posted March 8, 2015 I for one benefitted from socialism right here in the good old usa. I went to a public school, I joined th Navy at 17, I make a living selling websites on the Internet, I land my Mooney for free on almost any airport I choose. Many of the things that make America strong and allow capitalism to prosper are actually socialist in nature. Our country is much more complex than one single label. 2 Quote
