aviatoreb Posted January 29, 2015 Report Posted January 29, 2015 My Mooney has a legal take off weight of 3200 and a legal landing weight of 3083.

Hank Posted January 29, 2015 Report Posted January 29, 2015 So if I replace the 52 stainless belly screws with new ones 1/4" shorter, the wright savings can easily be measured, it just takes precise scales (work has them in grams to five decimal places, overkill for this), but how would I convince my A&P to do a new W&B with all of those new arms to calculate? I wouldn't even want to measure them all out and build a spreadsheet to add up all of those itty bitty numbers. Maybe I can shorten them up by 3/8"?
RobertGary1 Posted January 29, 2015 Report Posted January 29, 2015 I think it is primarily the takeoff component that it pertains to. If it were landing weight, I suspect the FAA would have us flying around with fuel dumping valves The Boeing limitation is in the strength of the landing gear assuming the worst ham fisted pilot. Somewhere on the planet exists the worst 747 pilot. He can't crash every day. The only limitation of landing over landing weight is an inspection of the undercarriage.
DXB Posted February 1, 2015 Report Posted February 1, 2015 Great topic that I need to learn better. I'm currently trying to update the equipment list for my recently acquired '68C- an eye opening experience. Many changes since it left the factory never made it to the w&b records. Then it was reweighed in '97, which actually shaved off 3 lb. But since '97, what's made it onto the official w&b seems equally incomplete (ignores added electric trim, new prop, a new physical panel, some of the avionics changes, all new interior, new paint). The official record now has only 888lb useful load. I'm hoping to get the panel completely updated soon, which will shave some weight. Would it make sense to reweigh at that point? Seems anything calculated is going to be way off, and given the history, and I'd like to know a semi-accurate weight/c.g. before I start carrying more than just my 140 lb transition instructor.
carusoam Posted February 1, 2015 Report Posted February 1, 2015 For your own sanity/safety... Update your records and weigh your machine... There isn't an advantage to not maintain an outdated record... For a good W&B record, it requires a fair amount of effort. Cleaning and emptying everything... There are probably hangar fairies that can weigh a machine to see if something is really surprising that needs to be looked for... Best regards, -a- 1
aviatoreb Posted February 4, 2015 Report Posted February 4, 2015 Hmmm... How much does your wife weigh again? Oooooh no, I can sense a trap. I wasn't born yesterday! No sireee! I'm not falling for that one! :-O 1
Hank Posted February 4, 2015 Report Posted February 4, 2015 Hmmm... How much does your wife weigh again? Less than one leg of your recent "crew," even the muscle-bound masculine one.
Marauder Posted February 4, 2015 Report Posted February 4, 2015 Less than one leg of your recent "crew," even the muscle-bound masculine one. You're just jealous! You would love to have one of them to put a squeeze on you!
