drpep Posted July 5, 2010 Report Posted July 5, 2010 I am in the process of installing wing root fairings as I speak. Anyone have any comments regarding value added in respect to speed enhancement, etc. Also, Any glitches to be concerned about when doing the installation. Thanks Philip Quote
Jeff_S Posted July 5, 2010 Report Posted July 5, 2010 My understanding with wing root fairings is that they help primarily with low-speed handling rather than increased speed at cruise. I had them on my Warrior but they were installed prior to my purchase so I couldn't give a pre-post evaluation of handling. Quote
Geoff Posted July 5, 2010 Report Posted July 5, 2010 I have them on my K and was talking to the guys at Dugosh who used to work at the factory. I asked why the new models, i.e. Acclaim, didnt have them and his reply was that they found in flight testing that they added no top end speed. I am actually considering removing them when I do a repait. YMMV. Quote
fantom Posted July 5, 2010 Report Posted July 5, 2010 I researched this several years ago, and the consensus was they look nice (depending on one's taste), do nothing for cruise speed, and may decrease your stall speed by half a knot. Even in their heyday, Mooney stopped installing them. I passed. Quote
HopePilot Posted July 5, 2010 Report Posted July 5, 2010 Lasar says they decrease stall by 2 miles an hour. I have them and my plane does seem to have unusually good handling just above stall, but it may be my imagination. Quote
