As long as you have a warning light or buzzer I don't see a problem with it being on the right side. The only time I've had a problem the warning light got my attention immediately and I looked at the engine monitor to see what the problem was.

yes, 4 of them: CHT, TIT, OIL, and FF

 

...correction CHT, TIT and OIL are for the 711 only

The 830 has a single light for all alarms, with exception of Low Fuel

I used p1 pin 12. It would pull low if any of the parameters are exceeded. It is a normally open circuit and can be paralleled with the ff output pin if desired.

Thank you gentlemen. I am planning on a little bit more panel work and the 830 will either get pushed over to the right panel or somewhere on the left. Making room...

The annuciator alarms on anything it has limits for. oil temp alarms on start up, oil pressure, RPM, etc. OTOH, since oil temp red line is 245 and CHT is 475 from the POH, those are not effective as caution alerts.

That's the one thing I missed after I swapped the 830 out with the 900. On the 830 I could set the limits anywhere I wanted, and can't on the 900. Someone posted a few days ago that they were in the process of getting approval to allow us to set up a second set of customized limits. I had thought about using a small microprocessor to monitor the serial output and then turn on a separate light if any of the parameters go above the limits I have set in the micro.

The serial output is for GPS, fuel flow, I don't believe it passes on any other data.

Somebody at Oshkosh maybe can ask the JPI guys what's the status?

There is also a serial flight data recorder output that includes everything. I'm not sure if it is in ASCII or encoded.  When I get time I'll capture some of it and see.

Well, as some of you might know, I recently imported an EDM900 from the US and had it installed in my F. Since day one, however, I've had some issues with it and although probably minor, I do not expect this from an instrument, certified to be used as primary. I actually regard the display issue on my unit, that does not function as advertized, as somewhat of a safety issue.

What bothers me most though, is the don't care attitude revealed by JPI and their rather poor response, or actually the lack thereof.

 

Like I've said many times in the past, I will never fly without an engine monitor again and should I buy an airplane without one, I will have one installed immediately. That said, I will never again spend one dime on any JPI product, ever. I know very well that this won't bother JPI the least, but I'm already feeling better.

This statement is based on reports from MS. I have a JPI that came with the plane.

The fish is becoming less noticeable as time goes on. It only appears at the very bottom of their website page.

I have just installed an EI MVP-50 and can say it is so much easier to operate the the JPI button setup. If you are looking to replace your primary I would take a look at it for sure.

Do you know if the G3 can use the same thermo couples as the JPI?

Thoughts of upgrading from one to the other. It would be wonderful to keep the dozen that are installed already...

The four cylinder is small enough to mount on the left of the six pack...RIGHT in front of you. It is inexpensive enough tht you can afford new probes...Does NOT have fuel quantity, if that is a deal-breaker. I could not be happier with the unit. I wear readers and I can see it fine without thm on the panel.

I know that EI monitors can use the JPI probes. I asked that exact question myself to EI as my plane had a JPI 700 in it. In the end I chose to take all the used JPI stuff out and put in new EI gear at greater expense. I guess in for a penny, in for a pound. :blink:
