Marauder Posted March 28, 2014 Report Posted March 28, 2014 I watched the video. Sure should beat the Wenol and other stuff I tried! Quote
bonal Posted May 3, 2014 Report Posted May 3, 2014 Picked up a used spinner from Mooney space and ordered some cal custom which arrived in 5 days. The spinner is in good shape but needs polishing so I will be getting it all nice and shiny this weekend. I start my annual at LASAR on Monday so it gets installed next week. Will add comment on results. Does any one use any of the other products from Cal Custom? Quote
NWMooneyDude Posted May 4, 2014 Report Posted May 4, 2014 Interesting story from a Mooney pilot, somewhat related to this topic. http://www.aopa.org/pilot/never_again/2007/na0704.mp3 Quote

woodryan Posted May 5, 2014 Report Posted May 5, 2014 I have a painted spinner but love the look of polished. I am afraid this may be a dumb question, but can you strip and polish a painted spinner? Quote
MB65E Posted May 5, 2014 Report Posted May 5, 2014 Anything is possible! It just depends on the condition of the metal. If you have some Corrosion, or you can see the spun marks thru the paint, it would probably best to treat and repaint. The old spinners, tend to have good metal and can polish out nicely. Some of the newer spun spinners will have lines in them forever. Also, in the later Hartzell spinners ( 2003- and up) the metal quality is not as pure as it was in the 60's & 70's. Some of the newer aluminum has a spotty haze to it. I saw a new PT-6 spinner on brand new TBM-850s look like crap. I had a spinner on an S2C that had this annoying dark spot in it. While running you could even see it flashing at you! All depends, I bought a crusty old painted acrylic white spinner off an Arrow. It looked nasty before. It came out really pretty after polish. It looks even better on the Mooney!! Good luck, -Matt Quote

Yes you can, and I did this with my old spinner prior to painting my J. I stripped it myself, and had a local polishing shop polish it to perfection for ~$70. Quote
