If you put a Recaro in your M20C, you will need to put a bump in the roof to fit your head.

My 87 firebird got one. Great support. Huge side bolsters. Could not fit two in the 'bird or in the cockpit either...

I've sat in Recaro seats in BMW 32xi's before. They can't be that wide.

The bolsters were a couple inches wider overall. The killer was the seat bottom was so tall.

The comfort level would be a huge improvement compared to the sawed off C seats.

Great for lateral Gs!

Oooh - I want an extra hole.  Can you pm me drawings please?

You need to be a good boy and maybe the "Hole Fairy" will visit!

It's an extra hole at the rear of the seat track. Basically you have one more hole to click the seat in before the long throw to the rear stop.

Byron, can the rails be conceivably drilled in the plane, or do they have to be removed, drilled and reinstalled? Thanks.

I drilled mine in place.  The drawing is pretty simple really, it gives precise measurements to drill a .25" hole in the 4 places required.

Is there an SI for it Byron? Not finding one when I searched. Thanks.

I don't follow? My seats are VERY minimal. If I put them in the Mooney, I'd probably not be able to see over the panel. Fitting two wide would be a problem, but only because of the J Bar. The height wouldn't be an issue though.

Come to think of it, I would guess my car interior is both shorter and narrower than my Mooney!

I would think that Recaro makes as many seat designs, sizes and shapes as there are different automobiles on the planet.

The Recaro that I bought was their standard aftermarket seat. I bought it from a youth who was trying to make back money he wasted on his Mustang.

On the topic of Lotus...

Can you guys put a V-8 in those?

Yes, there are dozens of Recaro models. The OEM Recaros in my Lotus are a far cry from the OEM Recaros in an Audi I formerly owned.

As far as a V8, There have been Loti in the past that had small V8s in them. In the Evora/Elise/Exige lineup it's not an option and it doesn't need to be. They're making plenty of power out of the V6 and I4 in their modern cars, and without the weight penalty of the bigger motor. More displacement is sort of the antithesis of their design strategy, which is to "add lightness" as Chapman put it.

On my last track day I dispatched V8 Vettes, Mustangs and Camaros without problems. The McLaren and V12 Lamborghini were tougher but eventually I reeled them in too.

I went the Carrol Shelby route...

Pick a light vehicle and stuff more cubes in it...

550 cubic inches = 9 liters.

No digital technology, no turbos. Just brute strength...in a comfy frame...

How many horsepower per liter are you getting out of your Evora, Rob? I know that it is a different class entirely, but my SAAB, with light ECU tuning only, is at 120hp/liter. SAABs can go up to about 150hp/liter with just ECU, intake, and exhaust modifications. After that you have to start digging a little deeper into your wallet. Mine is a convertible, though, and is certainly built for comfort and not for speed.

Beautiful car, by the way. Stunning actually.

Thanks! I'm at around 100hp/Liter. I'm sure I could get more out of it if I wanted to really push the envelope (Lotus Racing is) but I'll stick with the reliability of the current setup; it's plenty of car as it is!

More horsepower will make you faster in the straights. Less weight will make you faster everywhere. Two very different approaches!

Hmmmmm....

100hp/liter.

Mooney engine = 9 liters. IO550

Or 5.9 liters. IO360

Quick calculation... 900hp or 590hp...

I'm going to need some special seats to go with that!

What did the Porsche Mooney get wrong, springs?

What technology allows for this 100hp number today???

The Audi guys start with a stout turbo 'diesel' block and then add larger

Turbos...

Fuel usage is an inverse relationship with gas pedal motion. Pedal down, usage way up!

Rice rockets rule! A modern sport bike at 1 liter makes over 170hp at the rear wheel with no turbo is super light idles all day without plug fowling and gets 40 plus mpg. Since the subject line has digressed to HP vs weight lighter is better.
