JPI RPM Problem

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I am having a problem with my JPI that I cannot find an answer too here or elsewhere.  The RPM measured by the JPI, EDM-800, is reading double the Tach RPM.  I have checked the connections on the sensor (Bendix Dual Magneto Magnetic Pickup) as well as the cleanliness of the sensor pickup and all was good.    This problem was intermittent, was gone for a few months and now has returned and I repeated my connection check without luck.

Does anyone have experience with the JPI doubling the RPM sensed? If so what had you done to resolve it?

Thanks for looking.

Mike

Hi Mike,

It's in the settings as well as where you have your sensor.. If you have the dual mag setup the sensor is picking up either one or both of the pulses. I have mine on the left as looking from the top on the pilots side.

When I installed the system the pickup read double the actual. I phoned JPI and they told me to go into settings and change the 4 cyl setting to 8.

It's worked well for 260 hours and 2 years

Steve,

That was exactly the problem.  I have my pickup in the vent plug on top of the magneto, which looks to be centered.  If I had read page 45 of the JPI manual I might have seen the note for dual mags which I found looking for the programming settings.

Thanks for the quick help.

Mike

TKKKKSSSSSSS.
