  1. I don’t know shoes from Shinola, but those blocks look fine to me. I’d guess the lost metal is no thicker than a coat of paint. Certainly no harm in replacing them, of course.
  2. I’m not tax- or finance-savvy and I’m fine with that. I am a hobby pilot and pay for it from my personal entertainment budget. And, I fly cheap planes from cheap airports. So, I really don’t focus on the dollars until it’s time to buy a new GPS, tires, etc. I started working for a small (150 person) company 300 miles away in Chicago. In December and again in June I was invited to come to the office for a meeting and social event. They are excellent about covering all travel expenses, and expect most remote employees will be flying in. So I flew my plane up! :-) First time I’ve ever flown myself on business. I didn’t ask if I was allowed, because I’d rather ask for forgiveness than permission. (Now all the execs think I’m Superman and are asking about flying lessons) So when it came time for my expense report, I just reported automobile miles from my house to the destination airport (Lansing, IL) and a pair of $50 Ubers to/from downtown Chicago. The grand total was comparable to a commercial flight + taxi, so I was certain it wouldn’t be rejected. (My company is NOT uptight on any way) I included a note explaining what I was doing so they wouldn’t get confused by the personal miles AND the Uber. So, maybe I left some money on the table, and maybe I’m missing some tax savings…but for me doing the paperwork and teaching/convincing my company about aviation is NOT my idea of fun. Perhaps more to the point, I don’t want to encourage my employer to ever tell me I’m not allowed to fly. Just having them cover my fuel so I can get my fix is good enough for me. Am I missing out on enough to make it worthwhile? I’m only good for about two trips per year.
  3. Sounds like you’re well on the path to recovery. But if you need another opinion, reach out to Shannon Whalen. He’s an independent A&P+IA and CFI near Cincinnati and a Mooney owner. His knowledge and eagerness to help people never ceases to impress me. I’ll DM his phone number to you. I don’t know that I can be much help to you from Lexington, but I’m willing if you need a local contact. I’m based out of 0I8, 20 miles from Falmouth.
  4. Great advice, @hank. I’ll do just that. I’ll also share the dimensions here after it’s all done for anyone else on the same path.
  5. How high is the M20C tail tie-down ring? I’m going to weld one up, and would rather do it at home before my next hour-long commute to the airport. It will be adjustable with a pin, of course, but I want to be sure to not make it too tall.
  6. Looking for the little caps over the main gear bearing and nut. New ones seem unavailable. Anyone have a pair for sale? 6.00-6 Cleveland wheels off a M20C
  7. Thanks for the insight, everyone. I’ll be visiting downtown Chicago a few times in the coming year, and his info is just what I was looking for. Leaning toward Midway, atm, or maybe Gary. Possibly a day trip, sometimes one or two nights. If anyone has recent thoughts to share, I’m all ears.
  8. I hate to miss this, but I’ve got a Cub Scout hike that day that takes priority. Thanks for putting this together…I’ll be watching for more opportunities to get together in the future.
  9. Resurrecting this thread...has anyone actually installed a hat rack in a non-rack Mooney? My new M20D would LOVE to have one. Anyone have a ballpark on what it would cost? I'm thinking salvage parts are the way to go.
  10. "Can anyone tell me why in This hellfire market this master has gone unsold ?" Thanks for pointing out this issue, @patriot3300. I fixed it yesterday.
  11. Thanks, Hank. That’s exactly what I was looking for. What model are you flying?
  12. I'm exploring what an M20C (actually a M20D, if it matters) would look like in FlyQ. It has M20C Mark 21, M20C Ranger, and M20D in its database, but only the first one actually has profile settings. These are the FlyQ defaults: From what I've researched, those speeds sound a bit optimistic, and the fuel perhaps a bit optimistic for those speeds, but hopefully pessimistic for actual real-world speeds. Can anyone share their M20C aircraft profile settings? Thanks, -dave
  13. I don’t have one. More concerned about future repairs than modernizing. I’ve been looking for a C or E for a while, and a B just came up on Barnstormers. Researching M20B’s doesn’t turn up nearly as much info as the “newer-vintage” Mooneys. I have found that the B and C are mostly similar, mostly from this thread. It sounds like they fill the same mission, within a point or two. The only thing that would really scare me off would be if there was no parts availability. e.g. someone commented that the gear was different. Thanks for the welcome, @carusoam I’ve been soaking up as much as I can from this site.
  14. How is parts availability for the M20B? Are most M20C parts interchangeable?
