  1. Mine will not open from the inside while locked. Tested this a few years ago by pealing away the interior and trying to move the linkage. Linkage is not normally visible behind the padding. For this reason I leave it unlocked during flight as an escape hatch I hope to never use.
  2. Dig deeper. The required equipment listed on pg. 11 of the TCDS lists an approved flight manual that is required to be on board: 401(a) or (b) or (c) or (d) or (e) or (f) which is further defined on pg. 14. A full answer as to the gauge being required or not is most likely found within that document for the applicable serial number. I carry 401(a) in the plane but don't seem to have a digital copy. Maybe I can sneak out to the hangar tomorrow. I also have a ubg-16 so I'll look into those log entries as well.
  3. Just saw an article that they are now back in production.
  4. 1962, #2133... glad to be in such good company
  5. Karb, link please
  6. Completely removed or just disconnected? The decision tree changes if you have all or most of the parts. Brackets might still be in place and turn coordinator is probably the same. It's a start.
  7. I'm at KARB, Ann Arbor. Harbor Springs (MGN) and Mackinac (MCD) for sure.
  8. Even if the 430 in the C was upgraded you still have a transponder to deal with as far as ads-b is concerned. Waas upgrade, new transponder and install labor can get you near $10K pretty quick, if not over. On the other hand if you can live without LPV approaches a GTX 345 will meet the mandate, $5K plus antennae and labor. LNAV approaches still provide a lot of capability. Plus you can still do the waas upgrade later if you change your mind. Mission and wallet will help you decide how much and how fast to spend your $$.
  9. A spot would occasionally pop up within the EAA chapter I was in. Meetings are 2nd Wednesdays of the month at KHND. KVGT has a chapter also but a little smaller and less active. Go make some friends: http://EAA1300.org
  10. $315 for about 65% of the country east or west, $380 for all US. Prices are from JeppDirect. I have a 300xl i'm will to part with, PM if interested. Hope the pic below shows up correctly:
  11. Where is the plane currently located?
  12. Exactly. Sweat equity. Could have this wrapped up by spring. Many have mentioned how much it sucks to strip a tank. I have done it and it's not much fun. Watching my plane sit in the ramp while I try to squirrel away an additional $10K would be a whole lot LESS fun.
  13. Hand crank style or vacuum operated? I want to say they went vacuum im'65 but don't quote me. Not sure which parts are compatible.
  14. Would he consider re-sealing them if you stripped them yourself? Or would he agree to supervise you resealing them yourself? Don't get me wrong, I swore myself I'd never strip a tank again. It sucks. But if I were in your shoes I would have to seriously consider it, especially now that I have a hangar. Certainly easier on the wallet, but much harder on the arms and fingers. There was a thread recently where some folks had cobbled together a pluming system that would automatically circulate the solvent through the tanks. Made the removal process much easier from what I understand. Long thread but very informative:
  15. I think you "picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue."
  16. What is your installed equipment? I would think a mode C only target would have to be rebroadcast by a ground station first to show up on your screen. This is indirect but may show up the same.
  17. Being that close to the tank shop might make me consider leaving the left tank alone. I realize there is a little bit of a "get it over with" mentality when it comes to tanks but there can also be the "if it ain't broke" side of the argument. From your previous posts I gather you fly a heck of a lot more than I do so I'm sure that was a big factor in the decision.
  18. What was worn on the nose strut exactly? This info could help other Mooneyspacers. And was there no overhaul option?
  19. I see an older Garmin GPS in the panel. The annunciators above it would make me assume it is approach capable. May or may not have com functionality depending on model i.e. 155XL. Not sure why that would be included in the equipment list?
  20. Only 54, but almost all of it was IFR training. Added a 430W so the avgas budget suffered. Just got the plane back from annual and am jumping back in this weekend
  21. Prices range from $230-$375 at Ann Arbor, KARB. Mine includes electricity but I'm not sure about the others. Nearby Grosse Ile KONZ had a spot in the common hangar for $150 last time I checked and their T's ranged $224-$363.
  22. 1) Dish soap. Doesn't really need to be thick, it's the suds that you need. 2) Duct tape at first. It left some residue so I switched to some wide painters tape. Worked just as well. 3) Didn't. As that panel with the filler cap was removed in place of plexi I held the vacuum up to the vent on the bottom of the wing. I found that if I tilted the hose so that it wasn't completely flush with the skin it still provided enough suction to bend the plexi inward. The vent on my C is most likely different from your F. In fact my fuel cap is under an access panel with a scupper so there will of course be differences. The last time I did this I didn't even bother with soap. There was about 8 gallons of fuel remaining so I just put the plexi in place and applied suction. The bubbles were very easy to see coming up through the fuel and causing ripples at the surface. Good lighting is important. Tossing a few glow sticks under the plexi would sure help. Good luck.
  23. Agree about the 300XL. If mine wasn't a VFR install that lacked annunciators and an appropriate CDI I probably would have kept it.
