  1. +1 for everything that GeorgePerry said, especially a link to donate. I'm in for a few bucks. Very cool Joel!
  2. Is the sound similar to a stall warning sound or landing gear warning alarm? You didn't mention either in your post, so I'm sorry if you've already ruled that out. I had a rented Arrow do that to me even though I had 3 green while taxiing, ended up having a bad micro switch on the nose gear.
  3. Looks plenty capable but with a different user interface. Discontinued, but probably supported no doubt. Found this Flying Mag article: http://www.flyingmag.com/support-gns-480
  4. Red Baron Aviation has one in Santa Barbara, '62C just like mine - $150 per hour. I almost went out there before I bought last year but decided against it. Link below, but hopefully someone in your area offers up a ride before it comes to that. I can't remember what the rates were for an instructor. http://www.redbaronav.com/aircraft/mooney-m20c/ Brian
  5. Quote: Jeev Update : I had my inspection panel pulled and re sealed last week it's dry now however when we were in there we found another leak at the top of the tank that was running down the inside of the wing and making the cabin smell of AV gas so we patched that Monday. Been sitting with full tanks for 24 hrs now so fingers crossed but I think we got them all. On a side note while my mechanic agrees that the tanks have been dry for the last 3 years and 700 hrs since I have owned my J and the leaks only started after my recent paint he DOES NOT think they were caused by stripper. So who really knows?? I will be taking it back to Artcraft for touch up in a few months when in satisfied that the tanks are dry. My paint still looks good :-)
  6. I'd like to add an oil filter adapter to my C and see two choices, one from Casper Labs and one from B & C Specialty Products. Does anybody have any experience with either one of these units or any others that didn't come up in my search? Also not real sure if I should go with this upright style or with a horizontal type due to cowl clearance. Horizontal is twice as much $$. Links for each are below: http://www.chiefaircraft.com/aircraft/oil-system-filters/filter-conversion-kits/cl-1000a-stc.html http://www.bandc.biz/oilfilteradapter-stcpma.aspx Horizontal: http://www.chiefaircraft.com/aircraft/oil-system-filters/filter-conversion-kits/lyc-lw13743.html
  7. Quote: M204ever This duct port is not connected / equipped with a hose inside the cowling. Apart from that it is almost tight from color. Is it intended for generator cooling ? Thanks for your input.
  8. Mitch: Thanks! But don't get too close or you'll see how bad the paint is faded... bd32322: Wish I did, but I never actually used the app myself. I'll go ahead and add it though since I'm still curious. Unfortunately I don't think I'll be back in the air until at least the middle of next week.
  9. Quote: bd32322 when did you guys realize that you need to balance your prop? Gauges vibrating and not readable? Any indications you used? Or there is no way to tell unless I take it to the prop shop? I just generally accept that a piston engined airplane will vibrate like crazy. What I think is smooth enough may not be smooth however
  10. My planes previous owner wrote the check for the reseal in '05, so I didn't vote but their holding up just fine. Since my '62C has the 48 gallon tanks, I'd be interested in the larger capacity of the bladders, 6 or 8 bag.
  11. Quote: NateZ I don't have a maint. manual available to me just yet. (nor an airplane yet either, working on it) If grabbing the tail from the bottom of the rudder and lifting up (not hard), how much play is acceptable in the trim system if any at all? thanks, Nate
  12. Quote: Lionudakis how bad was the actuator to get rebuilt ?
  13. Quote: zerobearing2 Hi all- I had my trim freeze up on me recently. We tracked it down to the jack screw in the tail. It had protective cloth covering around it; was badly deteriorated so we removed it. Don't think anyone has lubed this in a great while. Cleaned and lubed everything real well and now the trim works better than when I first bought the plane. However, I have no idea where to find the protective cover that was around the jack screw and hinge? Looked like some mesh cloth tub that slid over the screw and hidge and then held in-place with 4 little tiny screws. Anyone know where/what it is made of or how I might fashion another one to keep debris from getting into the jack screw? Can't seem to find anything that references this cover/boot anywhere...
  14. Link below is where AOPA sends you for the info. Form to replace lost/stolen license is at the bottom of the page. http://wireless.fcc.gov/commoperators/index.htm?job=rr
  15. No experience with a 3 blade, but a bunch of us from my local EAA chapter (1300 in Henderson, NV) pitched in to buy a dynamic prop balancer. Those of us that pitched in get free use of it for life - $50 for anyone else I think. One of the guys made a bracket that works for all of the Lycomings (360 series) that we've tried so far, and also one for the rotax guys. My initial vibration level started off much higher than normal so I'm going to have my prop statically balanced before I do any more adjusting, but I was still able to cut my IPS (inches per second) by about 40 percent. Noticable at all RPMs. Pics below are from a members RV7A, which was easier because he could but the weights on his starter ring. My spinner had to come off to add hardware. Didn't take pics of my own unfortunately. Vid below explanes the process much better than I can in a paragraph: http://www.rpxtech.com/rpxweb/Dynavibe.asp
  16. 42.5 in my C, all logged since September when I bought. Probably won't fly in Jan because I'm doing instrument ground school and have some maintenance to take care of. Hoping the instrument training helps me keep the hours up. 5.6 in a rented arrow earlier in the year. I don't miss renting.
  17. aerobat95 - I'm pretty sure thats where she got 'em. kerry - Thanks, I really like the paint scheme too but it needs to be re-done. (wishlist) Which one is yours? There's at least 3 Mooneys in that row of sun shades i think... jeev - speaking of paint, I'd like to scope out your nice new paint job some time. I'll pm you later in the week.
  18. My girlfriend bought these for me and I thought I'd share. From Flying Magazine, the second one is from '62 and the rest from '58. Check out the cost per mile in the first one! First post so hopefully the pics attach correctly...
