Need Some Education - 1974 M20E Mod Squad
McMooney replied to Duffman's topic in General Mooney Talk
looks to be a pretty nice plane. while yes, you could put boatloads of cash into the panel, that one is perfectly serviceable. If you're lucky, the brittain works or can be fixed, it'll follow the pink line like it's on rails. Honestly, if you bought an E today and tried to mod it to an equiv level, it would be WAY more expensive than what's being asked. tanks alone are almost unobtainable. oh yeah, it's prob faster then a M20J. get it annualed, if it passes write a check, have fun. -
yes. RAM® X-Grip® Universal Holder for 7"-8" Tablets with Ball (rammount.com)

I use two IPads, mini5 and mini6 when flying real distance, 1 may or may not play an inflight movie 8) 1 is mounted on the yoke, the other is attached to the windshield bar, above the compass near the ceiling. I use Xgrip mounts and standard speck cases, have never had issues with over heating.

old six pack - what would you do with $20K?

everyone is soo proud of their used equip, makes it unattractive -
the ev i have on order get's 300 miles per charge, so with a 15 mile commute that's approx 7 days between charges after which it gets charged at the ***house!!*** my ic will NEVER approach that amount of convenience. I've stopped at a gas station at-least once per week for most of my driving life, this alone makes it worthwhile. if i take that same vehicle 300miles on a roadtrip after 4 to 5ish hours of driving I stop for 45 mins to charge the vehicle, no where near as quick as fueling my ic but, i was gonna stop for 45mins to an hour anyway; past 4 or 5 hours i'm taking a plane so neither ic/ev has an advantage. Houston to Dallas is about as far as I’m driving and with most new evs making that trip, I’m good.; any further I’m taking a plane. do have to say the minimum range on my IC is 500miles WAY more convenient if i ever drove 500 miles. everyday use, where I’m home charging and just puttering about the city, at todays rates the EV fuel cost is something like 19$ vs 40$ for the same range. seems like a win for the ev. total lifecycle cost, no clue. I drive fully optioned vehicles so can't really speak to this

forgot about the aztek, would def ride a prius before that. No clue how someone at GM could think that was a good idea
-
Drove a chevy Volt that would completely destroy my 1996 camaro in the quarter, unfortunately, it was about as sexy as a prius, no take that back nothing is as ugly as a prius

i use the way-back position when flying long cross countries, feels better than business class 8) -
Unfortunately, I believe GA is killing itself, electrics will have little to do with it. it's just gotten damn expensive. in the last 5 years, insurance has double, hangar rent has went up 1.5 times, mechanic now charges 100+ dollars an hour everything avionics is just damn expensive. new garmin navcom is 5k, hell a used 430w is still 4 or 5 k. new 172 is FAR more expensive than my house, let alone something like a cirrus/diamond really, really hard to get a young person excited about flying when it means sacrificing pretty much everything else

check with the avionics shop about moving the radios, I found out the hard way(spent more money) avionics stcs can be pretty particular about where radios are located

Best GPS and Auto Pilot Upgrade for a 1963 M20C?
McMooney replied to Van Lanier's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
how about swapping the garmin 345 for a garmin 375, add a g5/gi275 and gfc500 autopilot. -
will say my experience at IND, was AWESOME, expensive fuel but sig was only 40$ a night. also sig gives a 50cent discount on weekends, so cheaper than everywhere else in indy sat and sun. 500 weekend will prob be crazy but the place is HUGE and fedex is only thing really moving out there. I'd expect KEYE to be jammed full. I'm most likely flying into Indy the day after, think i'll try KUMP this go around. my understanding that fee may not be limited to IND.
-
was just in indy tuesday. call one of the FBOs and make a reservation. also, from my understanding, the airport/airport authority is charging something like 2 to 300$ for parking during that period.(on top of signature/millionaire charges) I believe it ends the day after the race

is the issue you contacted tower regarding your gear status or that you changed a lightbulb? My guess it's about contact with ATC. Answers for Pilots: Preventive Maintenance - AOPA there are also a number of letters where an FAA rep has stated they cannot give an exhaustive list of owner maintenance.

99% of the time. Either IFR for trips or Flight Following for puttering about. The Houston area is too busy to be flying about silent, at least for me 8).

So, another consideration. My current airport is privately owned, meaning i can just about do whatever i want with my Hangar. ( some rules ) the new hangars are of course county owned which comes with lots and lots of rules. ex. limited maintenance, no couches, tvs, only tiny fridge. essentially no Hangar Man Cave. can't use extra space for storage, blah blah blah
