  1. let go of the yoke, grab the metal bar in the windshield, pull yourself forward till you can reach it. think i'll be going to home depot tomorrow
  2. Oh yeah, auto-muting of a monitored comm channel is awesome. I now tend to set my next frequency very early and just set it to active. knowing it'll eventually start working but not be in the way of the primary channel. USB PORT is KILLER.
  3. I replaced a kma-20 and intercom with the pma 8000G, step up from 7000 but not quite a 450. Intelliaudio, is just nice. makes it a lot easier to monitor multiple sources. bluetooth in and out is killer. makes it real easy to call up and get clearances on the ground. beyond that, i never bother with all the other features. the install cost of the 450 will dwarf the purchase price. they have to rewire the plane for stereo along with reconnecting all the other components. if i had had a kma24, i'd have bought the 7000 and spent the upgrade monies elsewhere
  4. 1. If you are financially capable, DO IT. don't pass go, don't collect 200$, just buy the darn plane. kick myself for waiting. 2. understand the cost, it cost me about 10AMU per year before ever flying the plane. (annual, hangar rent, insurance, database subs, garmin pilot sub ) how much renting is 10AMU ???? 3. if you can cover #2, forget the cost, you're good. Seriously, never look at the cost, you've been warned. as for a loan, i say do it. I waited till i could buy the thing cash, still took a loan and invested the cash. Best decision ever.
  5. In my E, except for the nose high attitude, it really doesn't make much difference. poh says @approx 80 i'm still in a good place for landing, plane stays a bit more planted. still can stop in under 1500ft. The last two years, i've tended to land with only take off flaps. easy to get a squeaker and brakes are barely used turning off the runway in about 2500 ft.
  6. I'm kinda in the same boat, 1974E here. It adoes just about everything I need, turbo-normalized and long range tanks would make it perfect. needs paint, pair of gi275's and an autopilot. I'd say if you have the cash, why not buy a better plane ( ovation, bravo) maybe ???? it's possible you'd get a lot of it back in the future. that being said, if i painted my E, added a pair of gi275's and maybe a gfc500, given the current market, I wouldn't be out much at all. too bad the crystal ball fell out the little side window. I also remember telling my hangar neighbor, save the money for the destination not the trip, he bought an ovation haven't seen him since 8)
  7. I'd take AMTRAK just to say i did it
  8. PPL CFI beat it into my head, panel fuel gauges are NEVER accurate, never use. 20+ years never have. time and fuel flows are all i use, verified after every flight. I think someone said something about a cies fuels sender that's super accurate
  9. I'd be ready to purchase, was ready to drop the plane off at Jeev's years ago when it was still trutrak. it's a perfect replacement for my Brittain
  10. I asked the DPE about the MB during my IR checkride, she just shrugged and kept it moving
  11. I have this : Yaesu FTA 750L NAV/COM Aviation Radio (sportys.com) works great, use it in the hangar and to pick up clearances mostly. It also has noaa weather channels which is cool oh yeah, it's really LOUD, you can hear it in the plane over the engine. nav features actually work
  12. I had the same issue Wednesday flying from KUTA to KDWH. was thinking it was the mags/surefly/alternator/VRr making the noise as it continued with everything except for the audio panel off.
  13. wow isn't this the definition of owner produced part ? Wonder if i could use one to enable/disable the wing leveler thru a switch instead of the yoke button
  14. What did Garmin give you? good chance we could make something work.
  15. I"m thinking this might just work in the Mooney, power draw doesn't seem to be outrageous. Plus would only need for takeoff and landing. all else fails use it when i go fishing Mark 2 Specs (zerobreeze.com)
  16. I've pretty much used takeoff flaps in the m20e since getting the IR 2 years ago, plane lands rather short with brake usage being rare. great visibility on the approach. funny thing, i actually stopped using flaps on the takeoff.
  17. I have both but to be honest unless it's close to 0/32f i don't really care all that much
  18. ahh, sorry was thinking mx20, I'd still try a non Sandisk 2 GB SD Card. Sandisk does something strange with their cards keeping them from working in a lot of equip. the activation card from Garmin is 2GB. did garmin supply instructions for activation ?
  19. I use a 1Gb Card in my gns480. There is one thing, you can't use SanDisk cards, no idea why but they aren't compatible. here's what i use : Amazon.com: 1GB CompactFlash Memory Card (CF) use for Camera: Computers & Accessories
  20. took my ppl checkride in a diamond, love those planes. Visibility is amazing. Entry and Exit is easy. big wings make it a bit bumpy and also give a whole new meaning to the term "FLOAT". seriously, after flying a diamond you just can't understand why people complain about mooneys floating or being to slick to slow down. wish they had a bigger engine and maybe a side stick.
  21. somewhere between 120 and 100 until i'm lined up with the runway. try to keep it above the clean 60deg bank stall speed. also tend to make a rounded turn to final unless asked for a square.
  22. Forgot to add the CESSNA 337, love these
  23. I always logged into leidos from the tablet to get the briefing anyway, never liked gp's bare briefing. Weather charts are nice. I love that the latest updates now let you graphically select arrivals on both android and apple. this was the one feature i missed from that other EFB
  24. wish i could figure out how to live without my jepp subscription for like 4 or 5 mos. darn thing expires in Dec and their discount is only during SNF
