  1. Yes, they’re very tight. On the Mooney IIRC, you bolt on the engine mount and then install it to the firewall, and on removing it, unbolt the mount from firewall first. You’ll see telltale damage to footwell extensions if you don’t do it properly.
  2. Most are just simple lights, there’s some smart circuitry for low fuel, low vac, hi/low voltage, but if you have no vacuum and a certified engine monitor will replace the others.
  3. I like what they did, having the panel moved up as high as possible, I did the same. Trying to minimize head movement . But where is the annunciation lights/panel? Gear down, Gear unsafe are definitely required? Edit: I see it’s on the glass panel.
  4. I agree with above but you’ve seem to have already made a decision. A couple of things: Looks like your ram mount is for a phone, if so consider moving it with a mount on the glare shield. See pix, the wide angle shot distorts the size of the phone. Also, you may want to get rid of the annunciator, replacing it with lights where required. I would lose all legacy instruments and the vacuum pump, I think the K is useful load challenged.
  5. Interesting, according to G3X installation manual, the flight plan must be set to internal?
  6. They installed the latest software, I have to try it again, they talked to Garmin but still haven’t gotten it resolved.
  7. BTW, at the risk of being obvious, keep it away from your magnetometer if you have one.
  8. 8.9 just refers to G3X connext, works great when GPS is set to internal. See page 173, notice no mention of Xi: And in Xi manual:
  9. No it doesn’t, at least not for me. This works with old GTN I guess, but the new Xi doesn’t seem to support this.
  10. There’s always the copilot jacks.
  11. Unlikely, I’ve never seen a 2900 J with a UL above 1100. Obviously the changes made to fuselage to allow the heavier weight also added weight can’t be removed. The fancier seats, 205 upgrades, etc really can’t be removed as there is an expectation that certain years have certain options.
  12. My 78 came from the factory at 996lbs, was 938 when I bought it, and after a number of upgrades it sits at 1012. I have a number of 205 upgrades like wing tips, wing landing lights, speed brakes, etc, otherwise it would be over 1040, probably 1050 is the theoretical limit for earlier Js.
  13. Also, adjust mixture based on your altitude. When on final, open cowl flaps to cool the engine as much as possible so your restarts may be a little quicker. How long it takes before engine starts to catch depends on how much time has passed. I find 15-30 minute starts the most difficult, especially in the summer months. The 1-2 minute restarts are easy. I use the hot start method after changing my oil, so 1-2 hours later, starts nicely as well.
  14. Throttle setting to 1000+ (ie where you set it at cutoff), turn engine over, wait for it to start to catch, push in mixture, if it runs rough, turn on boost pump and gently increase power so rpms increase to 1200+ and it starts to run smooth.
  15. New mags run about $2000 each, 500 hour inspections about $400-$500. I will have 1 inspected when time comes and then do the other one the following year.
  16. Assuming your control cables are original, I would consider replacing the throttle and prop cables as well. I replaced all 3 when I had my engine overhauled, asking cables to work past 40 years old is asking a lot.
  17. It’s labeled “engine” under the landing gear lever along with other annunciation lights.
  18. Check your math, your EW should be around 1730.
  19. Wow, you must think Js are pigs if top is 939? I’d expect most were shipped from the factory close to 1000lbs, except for maybe the years 82-86 when they were getting heavier and before the increase of MGW to 2900lbs
  20. Try logging out and then login again.
  21. I always use split mode, I arrange it so the flight panel would be centered on the yoke. I wanted the G3X as high as possible to minimize head movement. I also arrange it so everything I commonly interact with is in easy reach of my right hand. P.S. Unlike Lee, I did crop out my legs. :-)
  22. I see no reason to go with the 7” as a single primary display. Same money for installation as the 10”. I saved money and panel space by going with the GTN 650 and adding a Aera 660. I buy the onepak DB package to get updates for the Aera, GTN, and G3X.
  23. You can just paint the rounded corners.
  24. I had a 76 Corolla, SR5 if I recall correctly, I don’t remember having any issues.
  25. Trick question, Antarctica.
