  1. Is that one of the reasons hot starts are so problematic?
  2. Yes it would, look at how JPI designed their products (800->900), they just added an additional D connection for the D, the other connections are identical. Maybe not as clean as a bottom up redesign but clearly Avidyne figured it out.
  3. The problem is all those 430/530s still in service after 20 years, and the fact they didn’t make the GTN plug compatible. A poor business/engineering decision. But they seem to be selling tons of G3X, GFC500, and G5s.
  4. We don’t have instrumentation to give us ICP, so we use cylinder temperatures as a proxy. The other indication would be the sound of the engine running rough, and enriching the mixture should your first attempt to fix it. But if ICP are extremely high, the CHTs are going to rise well above 375°, Busch has shown engine monitor traces of CHTs quickly rise above the top limits of the engine monitor (600° IIRC).
  5. Only true if it’s reasonably balanced, if you have a cylinder running far more rich than others, that cylinder could still be running ROP. An engine monitor is needed to determine this.
  6. Buy Xi in Oct-Dec.

  8. You may want to remove the closest inspection plate and take a look inside.
  9. I have a 78J and don’t have any issues with the GFC500 with latest software updates, FWIW. Please make sure you have no sticking of the controls and trim.
  10. That software has been available since January. AD is yesterday’s news.
  11. Except for the fact you need a bigger hole.
  12. Don’t they do that after you land? So may not have been on ATC frequency.
  13. Interesting, my KLN90A in my list shows 13.5 installed, 14.2 when removed. Nothing in my panel is higher than 21 (GFC 507).
  14. Dealer is a liar, probably a former used car salesman.
  15. Skytec has PMA starter solenoids, not Mooney original model so a slight modification to mounting may be required.
  16. Avidyne already has DFC90, all they have to do is certify it for Mooneys, which they said they would do years ago when it was introduced. Only Garmin seems to be able to back up their promises.
  17. Upgrade process can also be rewarding, getting it the way you wanted. Most of the year? I would say 3-6 months for a complete upgrade depending on unexpected problems found. Before you take it to the shop, do an oil change so your engine internally isn’t bathed in dirty oil.
  18. You can get a panel mount compass, cleans up the view.
  19. It’s not certified for IFR use.
  20. I don’t NEED an airplane either, if flying that slow, I would just drive.
  21. Js don’t have placard probably because they only came with electric (they were an option in the later years).
  22. You could get covers for the wings I believe, that would solve this problem and protect against hail damage.
  23. You can always just leave them off and log the removal of the STC. I did this with a couple of STCs.
  24. If I had a SS of any sort, I would look to buy a used computer/display of same model as a spare.
  25. Yes.
