  1. The G5s provide no MFD functionality, so the G3X is NOT like a G5.
  2. For me, it was the hangar rates, they were steady for years until covid inflation started, 167% rise in 5 years. This year it jumped 75% and they didn’t bother to wait for Jan 1st, it’s a money grab. My annual cost doubled and insurance premiums increased 50%, the hangar was the last straw. Those 3 expenses would be $20k/year, airplane ownership has never made sense, but that’s just insane. I immediately put my plane up for sale when I got the notice, I had enough. And with those annual costs, it definitely doesn’t make sense to buy a less expensive plane, actually the cost of the airplane is the least expensive thing. Hope the new owner enjoys my plane.
  3. Could be the senders, have you noticed any avgas smell when you open the door? See if you pull the carpeting up to look at the flooring.
  4. He said BOTH gauges show low levels.
  5. Since both gauges show close to zero, did you open the fuel cap and use a flashlight to look inside? Shaking the wings won’t help you much, fuel noises from the other wing and last few gallons can still make noise. Check floor for blue stains! Avgas would evaporate quickly so don’t expect any wetness. Usually leaks are so slow they never reach the floor. Are you sure someone didn’t take your plane for a flight? Check FlightAware for last flight.
  6. I would also get flight history from FlightAware and see if it’s been active.
  7. There was a J for sale a few years ago with 10,000 hours, it was a Korean trainer. If it accumulated hours on long cross country trips, that’s no big deal, but a trainer?! I can only imagine the abuse it took.
  8. Can’t you ask the seller?
  9. Wow, where abouts are you located? I know a shop in Florida probably can do it for less.
  10. $30k for just the AP or does that include the audio and G5s?
  11. You do if you want to do LPV approaches, and because of their precision and popularity…you definitely do if want maximum capability.
  12. You kinda have to do the whole thing to get the full functionality. GPS navigator, AP, and other parts the AP needs (GFC500 requires G5, G3X, etc).
  13. This is standard for big companies, buy a mature business, move support and other non technical skills offshore, save $, bank profits, and hope no one notices the lack of new functionality in less common version updates. India because of their English language skills would be my first bet.
  14. So if someone unintentionally stalls it, what’s the chances of it being coordinated? I think it’s better to train to avoid it.
  15. Check your math. To pull it into hangar via tailhook, 30’x4=120’
  16. I just used a 4:1 block and tackle…. Cheap and easy to control.
  17. 6 hour flight!? I would recommend limiting flights to 3 hours. Heck I can barely stand to fly 6 hours on a airliners where I can stand up, go to bathroom and take a nap.
  18. It’s the stripping part that takes most of the time, the AP will probably just reseal it if the original sealant is good condition. Just like repainting a house. It’s difficult to just patch a small area unless it’s a inspection plate that’s leaking, which in my experience is usually where it leaks. Either screws or the plate itself. If you have to wait 2 years anyway, I would have the AP do reseal and if see if it works and plan on a complete job later.
  19. Why are some looking rusty?
  20. When others upgrade panels they will sell their old stuff including switches, I would recommend you keep an eye out for them.
  21. Those switches are also circuit breakers, so it’s not trivial to replace them. You need to add circuit breakers and switches, and circuit breakers should be with the others. Wait until you do a panel upgrade, the you have it done right.
  22. But 22 references the other “conflicting sections “ don’t apply. Bottom line, you can go back to small numbers. The paint shop should know what’s legal and what’s not. I went through this and went back to small numbers. No issues with multiple IAs and shops.
  23. I’ll guess BC stands for Backup Coordinator/Compass/something else. Turn on the power, put a test lead on it and if you have power to the switch, start pulling circuit breakers.
  24. I wonder what the useful load is?
  25. No, at least with the J which is very similar no modification is necessary. The G3X has a smaller depth than the 6 pack instruments.
