I have a question for folks with engine monitors that display %HP.

I have an EDM 800 that I've never bothered nor have felt the need to perform the HP calibration process with power settings in POH.

My question is how close to 100% do you folks see on TO? The closest I've seen on TO is around 80 or 84%.

I know it performs sophisticated calculations utilizing OAT, RPM, MP and fuel flow, and it would be extremely rare to ever see 100% but how close is my question. I see ff around 19.5 gph and RPM around 2680 on TO typically.

I'm going to calibrate it at some point but was just curious.

Coming out of KiWI 7/28, 70' MSL, OAT 20C, 29.1" 2700, JPI EDM 930 recorded 97% HP during t/o roll.

Later that day, taking off from KMFV, 46' MSL. OAT 32C, 94% @ 28.8 & 2700.

I did calibrate my HP factor per the book.

I did the calibration per the manual for my EDM 830. I just checked some of my downloaded files, I typically get 92-93 % HP on 2660 rpm at max takeoff power. Field elevation from 590' to 330' for the selected data.

I never thought I'd say this, but in the spirit of the day....you're fine with those readings, Peter. B)

Your hands were shaking as you type that, weren't they? ;)

Mine is usually around 18.5 on cold days and 17.5 on 3000 DA hot days.  It has the Bendix (formerly Precision, now Turn and Bank enterprises) RSA5-AD1 fuel injector, which is not adjustable, and I think your E has as well.

Thanks guys.

Looks like I should do the HP calibration.

Another excuse to go flying!
