DrBill Posted June 25, 2013 Report Posted June 25, 2013 My ram air boot is torn and we're looking for a new one for the annual. Anyone have a source for this ? I'll email Mooney too. BILL
Seth Posted June 25, 2013 Report Posted June 25, 2013 Call and MSC - I'm sure a few have them in stock. Mine on my former 1967 M20F was torn as well - made me cringe that unfiltered air may have been getting in at lower altitudes. However that was fixed and never presented an issue after. If those are torn, check the boots around main gear retraction mechanisms - those were torn in my old F as well. -Seth
1964-M20E Posted June 25, 2013 Report Posted June 25, 2013 I thnik I jsut got mine from Don Maxwell a couple of months ago. I think LASAR got some in or your could try Southwest Aviation. Those would be your three bes shots. If they do not have any now patch yours for the time being and place an order with one of them.
N201MKTurbo Posted June 25, 2013 Report Posted June 25, 2013 You can fix it with 3oz fiberglass cloth and black RTV. That is pretty much what it is made from.
danb35 Posted June 26, 2013 Report Posted June 26, 2013 $30? Mine was more like $300, about 4 years ago. There was someone around here that was talking about making PMA'd replacements out of silicone, which sounds like a much better material. Anyone remember who that was?
jetdriven Posted June 26, 2013 Report Posted June 26, 2013 Guy Ginbey, he posts over on Beechtalk. He makes nice silicone baffle seals for Mooneys as well. n77gb@msn.com
N601RX Posted June 26, 2013 Report Posted June 26, 2013 The E/F and J are considerably different. The E/F cost a lot more..
DrBill Posted June 26, 2013 Author Report Posted June 26, 2013 Thank you guys.. Just ordered it from Southwest ... Will be here on Monday. Had to get a new muffler too this year but we have a local place that gives my mechanic a good deal. That's about all the squaks he found this time. BTW the E/F boot is about $100 more than the C... BILL
Marauder Posted June 26, 2013 Report Posted June 26, 2013 When you say $100 more than the C, are you saying it is $130? Or something much bigger?
DrBill Posted June 26, 2013 Author Report Posted June 26, 2013 Sorry, the E/F boot is $315, the C boot is c $230. BILL
Marauder Posted June 26, 2013 Report Posted June 26, 2013 Sorry, the E/F boot is $315, the C boot is c $230. BILL Ouch!
garytex Posted July 1, 2013 Report Posted July 1, 2013 I have seen the boot that the guy that Jetdriven referred to makes. It's a better boot. And In this installation because the boot is under a constant misalignment strain and then also receives some intermittent additional stretching when the engine shuts down, better really is better. I have the original style boot, paid a ridiculous amount of money for it, and view it as one of the only Under engineered parts in my entire plane.
DrBill Posted July 10, 2013 Author Report Posted July 10, 2013 You can fix it with 3oz fiberglass cloth and black RTV. That is pretty much what it is made from. I'm going to fix the old one and put it in "stocK'. Thanks BILL
