DrBill Posted June 22, 2013 Report Posted June 22, 2013 Plane is in annual and I don't remember why this hose goes no where... Any ideas ? Thanks BILL Quote
Hank Posted June 22, 2013 Report Posted June 22, 2013 That's about where my cabin heat is. Although it's pretty small on my phone . . . . Quote
N601RX Posted June 22, 2013 Report Posted June 22, 2013 On my F that hose is the same size as the other hose that hooks to the heater box. It isn't hooked to anything, it just vents air through the heat muff on the muffler to keep it cool when the cabin heat is not on. Mine is mounted to a stud on the footwell. Quote
takair Posted June 22, 2013 Report Posted June 22, 2013 As Mike said it is to vent heater air out of the cowl when the heater is not on. As shown, it is pointed toward the cowl flap opening. Without it, you pump hot air up, typically toward the voltage regulator....not good. Quote
scottfromiowa Posted June 22, 2013 Report Posted June 22, 2013 and the XeVision HID ballast...also not good... 1 Quote
1964-M20E Posted June 22, 2013 Report Posted June 22, 2013 as far as I know it lets the air flow through the heater system keep your hose connected to the muffler cool. Quote
MB65E Posted June 22, 2013 Report Posted June 22, 2013 On our E it's a smaller hose from what it looks like, and its connected to the left side baffling behind the #4 cylinder. I think it pressurizies the air box to provide "flow" for the cabin heater. Otherwise it's just hot air moving whatever way it wants off the exhaust, with out positive pressure to force it in the cabin. Quote
Bob_Belville Posted June 22, 2013 Report Posted June 22, 2013 The hose ports hot air out when the heater divertor valve is closed. (When I bought my E I found that someone had installed a plug in this tube. Bad idea. I would up replacing the exhaust system. The plane had been based in upstate NY, I suppose someone thought the plug would help in the winter. As I said, bad idea.) Bill, my E has a longer hose, I think, getting the air nearer the cowl opening. I don't find a pic that shows the bottom end. Quote
Bob_Belville Posted June 22, 2013 Report Posted June 22, 2013 Bill, the bottom end of the hose is secured to the cowl frame tube with a wire tie on my plane. Quote
DrBill Posted June 22, 2013 Author Report Posted June 22, 2013 Thanks to all who replied.. That's what I thought it might be after looking at it. Found a big crack in the muffler so time to get a new one which will also fix my lack of heat issue last winter. BILL Quote
