N601RX Posted June 14, 2013 Report Posted June 14, 2013 This looks like a very expensive screwup. http://www.today.com/video/today/52202822/#52202822 Quote
rbridges Posted June 14, 2013 Report Posted June 14, 2013 well, the good news is the engines work great. Quote
KSMooniac Posted June 14, 2013 Report Posted June 14, 2013 Not unheard of, unfortunately. A coworker of mine is working on the design and analysis of some new mega-chocks for use in full-power runups for one of our new planes. The chocks are HUGE. Quote
N601RX Posted June 14, 2013 Author Report Posted June 14, 2013 When I worked for Lockheed, I saw pictures of a C130 or similar that was pressure tested as part of an inspection. The pop off valves were plugged off due to some other paint work that was being done. The worker apparently took extended break and the plane exploded at some point. The pictures looked real to me and not something that had been doctored up. I'll see if I still have the picture Quote
aviatoreb Posted June 15, 2013 Report Posted June 15, 2013 This looks like a very expensive screwup. http://www.today.com/video/today/52202822/#52202822 That happened at Atlanta KATL about 18 months ago when I was there in a commercial flight ready for departure - like number 2 in line - the pilot comes on and says "Ummmm....uhhhhh....I think we are going to be delayed." 30 minutes later as all the airplanes at the airport do the taxiway mombo to the other side of the airport off we go - and we go past a 727 that had done the same thing. Turns out the mechanics took the plane out for a run up and the brakes were not working - airplane rolled into a ditch in slow motion so I read later, and rolled into the ditch. Very expensive I am sure. Quote
Mooneymite Posted June 15, 2013 Report Posted June 15, 2013 As I recall, Delta mechanics missed the hydraulic pumps (brakes) on a checklist to do an engine check on a brand-new B-757 back in 1988 and pushed the plane through some massive hangar doors. The aircraft was eventually repaired and your next Delta flight might be on that airplane! Makes the price of chocks look pretty reasonable! Quote
contrails Posted July 4, 2013 Report Posted July 4, 2013 I wonder what the 337 form will look like with that one? Quote
flyboy0681 Posted July 4, 2013 Report Posted July 4, 2013 Let's not forget this one from a few short years ago. Always make sure the brakes are set and wheels are chocked. http://airlineworld.wordpress.com/2007/11/26/etihad-airbus-crash-pictures/ Quote
Alan Fox Posted July 4, 2013 Report Posted July 4, 2013 They are supposed to run these up in an area where they wont roll into something......Talk about being ahead of the airplane.... Quote
