Anyone ever fly to the Aircraft Spruce East store at DeKalb - Peachtree GA (KPDK)?

I know shipping would be cheaper than flying, but I'm flying anyway, so why not go?

I flew in once after placing my order online. I was pretty upset when I got there that they had not actually placed my order, but just "pulled" it. That meant that I had to pay sales tax on 3 new tires among other things. I'm from TN, so if I had just ordered online, I wouldn't have has to pay sales tax. On top of that, they had a free shipping promotion going on at the time, so I even missed out on that. Just keep that in mind if you're not from GA.

Spruce-East is indeed at FFC. Great little airport with lots of GA activity on the SW side of Atlanta.

Pull up to the FBO and park. Then you have to decide to walk about 10 minutes to the Spruce location which is just off the airport property, or call for the van.

Say, Hello" to Tim, Patrick, or whoever happens to be behind the counter. They're all great and will really work hard at finding your obscure parts/pieces and try to save you money.

Spruce is a great company with great people. I can't say enough good about them.

(No. I have no connection other than a pleased customer.)

The ATL class B airspace has recently been modified. No problem getting in/out of FFC, but be aware.

Ah, the "Spruce Run" as we like to call it locally.  A perfect excuse to burn $100 in AvGas when shipping and taxes would only cost $15, give or take. Of course, if you're going to pick up a case or two of oil, then things might start to even out a bit. The others have already told you the ropes. I generally walk from the FBO to the store just to get some exercise, but then take the shuttle back because I'm carrying something!

Kurt, not sure why you were so surprised about the sales tax. If you pick something up in the store, they are required to collect it no matter how you placed the order. That's standard retail practice all over. But still, you had the fun of flying there, didn't you?

Lastly, if you are coming from north of Atlanta, it's really fun to get a VFR Bravo clearance "over the top" which they usually will give out on a Saturday. This routes you right over the top of Hartsfield so you get to watch all the traffic coming and going below you. Pretty cool.

that would be cool.  The few times I've flown to RYY and PDK, they've pushed me around the class B.

I fully agree.

lol. Yup. I'm going to ask around and see if I can combine some orders but it's still more expensive. OTOH, I'll probably try the Elevation Chophouse at KRYY on the same trip.

Hijacking my own thread... anyone know the dress code at the Chophouse?

When I had a Sundowner, we had a Baby Beech Fly-in there and we all went to A/S.  I think I bought 2 or 3 batteries and a bunch of other stuff for pilots at my airport to save in shipping costs.  I'd do it again if I'm in the area.

I did get fuel at a different airport tho, about 10-20mi NE if I remember right and much cheaper.   This was 4-6 years ago.

I was disappointed at their showroom. The show room is small and only has a few of the more common things. Everything is back in the back and you have to wait for some one to pull it after you order. I get my oil from the local oil distributor. They keep several cases in stock and are cheaper than Spruce.

Spruce does have a spring fly-in that is pretty good. They put up several large tents outside and have some good deals.

Jeff, I guess I just assumed that when they asked for my credit card info and the site and I clicked "Place Order" that I technically ordered from TN, that I had already paid for the order and that I was just going to pick the order up down there. I just didn't put 2 and 2 together. It was a fun flight though. ATL ATC is very easy to deal with!

I too was disappointed with their showroom. I was looking forward to browsing, but most of the shelves were empty. Next time I'll just pay for the shipping.

Dress code at Elevation Chop House is...you have to be dressed. That's true pretty much anywhere in Atlanta. It's a nice place but not in any way "elegant."  Think more like a pub-type atmosphere. Whatever your piloting clothes are will be fine...they are more interested in your money than your threads!
