chuck459 Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 I'm a new member and would like to introduce myself. My name is Chuck, and the Mooney shown on the left is my 5th airplane. I began flying in 1962 while attending college in Texas. After collecting a pocket full of ratings and completing a tour with US Army, I was hired by a major airline and moved to Southern California where I have lived ever since. I owned a beautiful Beechcraft 33 for over twenty years; but after retirement it became clear that I needed something more economical to operate and maintain. After a lot of research, I settled on a clean 1979 201. I still miss the Beech, but the more I fly my Mooney, the more I like it. I think this airplane is a keeper. I really like the look and feel of this forum. I hope it does well. Quote
TurboExec Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 Welcome Chuck! Looks like you have a real nice 201 there... Quote
mooniac58 Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 Welcome Chuck! Forum costs me virtually zilch to operate...so it should not be going anywhere as long as I'm still on the planet Hopefully I will get lots of free time in 2009 to add new stuff here though like a good useful home page and some articles to help out mooney owners and pilots! See you around the site! Craig Quote
mooniac227 Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 Sure wish we could get the MAPA folks to convert over to here. I really hate their email forum. Quote
The-sky-captain Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 Welcome Chuck, good to have another 201 on board. Ditto on the MAPA guys. MOA looks to be dead in the water too. I had to get my money back when I joined MOA because I never got any of the magazines and couldnt log into the site. After about 4 months I got reimbursed. Quote
alun Posted January 19, 2009 Report Posted January 19, 2009 i joined them to get there online mag and then noticed there were no publications since jan 08. are they still going? Quote
Mooney_Allegro Posted January 27, 2009 Report Posted January 27, 2009 Hello Chuck and welcome. I enjoyed viewing your photos. I too joined MOA for a 3-year membership back at Sun and Fun last year. After 5 months and not getting 1 single issue, I called and cancelled my membership. It took awhile to get the refund, however I kept the free screwdriver tool they gave me and the free hat for my troubles. Quote
N207LS Posted January 27, 2009 Report Posted January 27, 2009 MOA is essentially run by Mooney Mart (note the common business address and how often you see the Mooney Mart ads in both the magazine and the classifieds). Their booth at sun and fun is also adjacent to Mooney Mart's. This is not ment to be any stab at them, but simply to point out the relationship. Their shop has changed names several times on the field at KVNC (Venice, FL). Last I heard it was affiliated with Florida Flight Maintenence (but may have changed names again, I heard something about using the name "Area 51" but am not sure, maybe someone else on this board knows). I initially joined MOA a few years back and really didn't find the magazine that great. I too have not seen anything recently from them, nor have I ever been asked to renew my membership (which I most likely wouldn't do anyway). I agree with the comments on the MAPA forum and really enjoy this board! It is a great way to share our opinions with others. Quote
The-sky-captain Posted January 27, 2009 Report Posted January 27, 2009 Magna Labs is also ran by Coy Jacobs of Mooney Mart. Their service is up to par with everything else he is involved in. Quote
