OR75 Posted April 12, 2013 Report Posted April 12, 2013 did you use the1/4" window ? where did you get it from ? did you have to do any trimming of the window to make it fit ? I bet it will be a lot easier to see other planes. Nice job !! Quote
N601RX Posted April 12, 2013 Report Posted April 12, 2013 Looks great. Is it the smoke grey or clear? The only problem is its going to want to make you want to do your side windows now. Quote
bnicolette Posted April 12, 2013 Author Report Posted April 12, 2013 We did use the 1/4" window (smoke grey) from LP Aero (which is :20 from my house) and it did take a fair amount of trimming. The better part of a day just fitting the window and making sure the retainer at the bottom fit properly since the window was bigger. We had that window in and out at least 30 times during the fitting process. All in all though it wasn't too bad, just a bit time consuming. I don't know that I'll realize any benefits of the 1/4" window over the standard size other than maybe safety of it being just a bit thicker but that's probably debatable. I just thought since it was available in that size for the "J" why not go with the thickest available? I do want to do the other windows now but they're in fairly good shape and would be hard to justify it. Maybe if I ever get to paint the plane (my ultimate dream). Which I plan to steal "Allsmiles" design. Whereas the front window was just terrible and definitely a safety of flight issue. I've been wanting to knock that off my "to do" list since I purchased the airplane and just now pulled the trigger. I'm glad it's done and hopefully it will stand the test of time during my ownership and those after me for quite some time! I am really happy with the outcome! It's funny, when looking at the plane from just a little distance with those "green tinted" windows on the side it almost looks as though there is NO window up front. Quote
carusoam Posted April 12, 2013 Report Posted April 12, 2013 Side windows are a lot lower in cost and in effort. Doing it right still takes a lot of effort. Cleaning old sealant and some trimming. The windshield looks great! Best regards, -a Quote
