M20L (Porsche) IO-550 conversion information

Did you talk to a certification authority before starting this process?  Unless someone told you differently, I'm afraid you don't really have a legal/airworthy path to do this conversion unless your mechanic/shop has an inside track to get a field approval granted, which the FAA does not do any longer.  Even if someone gave you a copy of the STC data package, you do not have the approval of the STC owner to "apply" it to your plane.

Since your plane is not N-registered, perhaps you are playing in a different sandbox and have different rules.  If by some miracle you're able to accomplish it, I doubt it would be able to be imported into the US if you were to ever sell it.  That may not be a concern of yours.

It will be very difficult to obtain airworthy if not find an approved STC like as02624at that was sale by Mod Works has done in the past. Here in Argentina if I could find a company that could provide me of a STC, I could apply it and obtain the airworthy, but can't find that documents from Mod Works

If someone sends you a copy of one of Madonna's marriage licenses does this now mean that you are now married to her?

Having a copy of the STC does not make it a legal installation.  As has been mentioned, you need permission from the STC holder to use it. That will be impossible since the holder has passed away and the business no longer exists.

He may just need the approved data for their paperwork.   It's not an N-registered airplane.   

Even so, the FAA may release approved data for an abandoned STC on request for such cases, but the process is lengthy and non-trivial.

Wouldn't it be good to have all of this lined up before buyng the engine?

Anybody told something like that, I Say that need a paperwork to work with argentine authorities to make one or approve the existing document again. Is how Eric say, with these papers I could legalize ir have as history that such documentation existed yo use it as backup. 

If someone can or want help me to put flyable My mooney, I'll be very gratefull.

The mooney was done perfectly but need that paperwork of that old STC applied

yes, but may be I has not explain well... my plane had a tsiol 550 converted to IO550, I removed turbo intercooler, water system and closed ventilation holes from water system refrigeration from at right side from fuselaje. all was done but need paper work to demostrate that the STC existed in some moment in the past... with that paper work, my authorities could do an evaluation and approve that works.

May be could you understand now.

Hello Niko! How are you? I spoke with ANAC (argentine FAA) and they told me: If I find a copy of the STC a shop in Buenos Aires will do the ITA to be airworthy my Mooney. I need your help or help of someone of this group, please!

I would be surprised if there were five airplanes with that STC, so patience may be required.  Also, if you want to get Niko's attention, you need to reference his name like this:  @Niko182.  Finally, I have to say that is a beautiful airplane.  I hope this works out as you wish.

Here are the ones that still have the Porsche engine:

N141MP - registered with a Georgia USA address, but based in and flying in Germany

N134MP & N42MP both registered to David McAlpine in Texas 

N144MP - in Texas 

A search of each of the other N-Numbers will show in pictures or ads that the other 12 have all been converted - 11 of them to the IO-550 Ovation engine and 1 of the to a TSIOL (Liquid Rocket).

Interesting.  I took from posts further up in this thread that the timeline was 1. Porsche  2. TSIOL  and then IO-550.  In any event, the numbers are pretty small.

There were 41 Mooney M20L models made, but only 15 are currently registered FAA registered. A few others are in Europe. But I suspect that some with the Porsche engines and some with the IO-550 are not on the registry anymore and rotting away on a ramp somewhere. (Example N155MP that's been sitting on the ramp for years at Peter OKnight airport in Tampa) Plus quite a few were destroyed in Hurricane Charley in 2004 (http://www.aero-news.net/index.cfm?do=main.textpost&id=1946e114-50b7-4e0f-8ef4-003f1b2afb8e)
