It is readable but you'll see a difference between the iPad 3 screen and the mini. I didn't really think the retina display was a big deal until I went to the mini. It is not horrible and the size is well worth the change. But there is a difference in readability. I put an anti glare protector on my screen which makes the text even fuzzier.

Going from Retina to non retina is a bigger issue than the size difference, to me at least.

To be honest, if they come out with one with the retina display any time soon, I'll probably upgrade.
