jetdriven Posted October 5, 2011 Report Posted October 5, 2011 here is some interesting info regarding tires, they say the FC III has 3X + 20% more landings than the others. if true, amazing. http://www.sacskyranch.com/faqaircrafttire.htm Quote
jetdriven Posted October 5, 2011 Report Posted October 5, 2011 So their tires AND tubes are bad? AND cost 2-3 X as much? wow Quote
MooneyMitch Posted October 5, 2011 Report Posted October 5, 2011 They do look really cool though!! Quote
FAST FLIGHT OPTIONS LLC Posted October 5, 2011 Report Posted October 5, 2011 After seeing the link posted by Mitch....Michelin Air Stop tubes is going to be. I dont want to wind up another statistic with the unstable rubber compound they talk about Quote
fantom Posted October 5, 2011 Report Posted October 5, 2011 Flight Custom III's for the mains, Flight Custom II's for the nose (due to clearance issues), all with Michelin Air Stop tubes. No worries! Align the tire yellow dots with the valves, be very careful not to get crimps in the tube when mounting, maybe get the wheels balanced as you would a car wheel. Yes, they look good and last for many years. For most, they will start to dry rot before they wear out. Quote
DaV8or Posted October 6, 2011 Report Posted October 6, 2011 Quote: Mitch Yep! I feel the same way everytime the nose wheel touches down. Something I need to take care of but have been putting off in lieu of Avgas.........ha. Quote
PilotDerek Posted October 16, 2011 Report Posted October 16, 2011 Looking at replacing my mains. What ply does everyone use? Quote
MooneyMitch Posted October 17, 2011 Report Posted October 17, 2011 Quote: DaV8or Have you tried having it balanced? Maybe that would fix any vibration you are feeling. Quote
panther1400 Posted October 17, 2011 Report Posted October 17, 2011 I just purcchased a FC III for my nose wheel is there going to be clearence issues? (on a 231) Should I have gotten a FC II? Quote

MooneyMitch Posted October 17, 2011 Report Posted October 17, 2011 Don also commented to me on this issue. I have not had that problem at all. The FCIII's have been on my Mooney for 1 1/2 years and I've seen no evidence of this. Yes, the clearance appears to be close. With that said, I will take a look at the clearance of Jolie's E model which has the FII installed. I'll report back on my findings. Quote

Shadrach Posted October 17, 2011 Report Posted October 17, 2011 The danger with tires that have little clearence is the rolled lip of the nose gear door interlocking with the tread when deploying the gear. I noticed this when adjusting the gear doors at annual last year. There really is not a huge amount of clearence and if they hang up, it could put you in a world of hurt... Quote
MooneyMitch Posted October 18, 2011 Report Posted October 18, 2011 The clearance between the side of the tire and the lower nose leg on the FCIII is approx. 1/8". The clearance on the FSII is about 1/32" more. This doesn't seem like much but it might be enough to have caused issues for others at one time or another. Possibly this dimension difference could become an critical in conjunction with the gear door adjustments. Quote

scottfromiowa Posted October 18, 2011 Report Posted October 18, 2011 If you want the best and you fly a lot Aviation Consumer 5/2004 gives nod to Goodyear Flight Custom III. If you are like me and you DON'T fly a lot the McCreary Airhawk outsells the Flight Custom III and is a good lower end tire. I replaced a set that was on my plane when I purchased. Still had good tread after 500 hours, but replaced with another set of Airhawks. They have performed great...for significantly less $. As stated REPLACE your tubes with the best you can get. Don't skimp on the tubes. I don't run the "Most Expensive" tire on my car either, but my tires perform great with 50,000 on the OEM set of Conti Pro Contacts... That was ScottfromIowa...Not Parker. I just logged in and confirmed it was me on top right...Weird. Quote
rob Posted October 18, 2011 Report Posted October 18, 2011 Wow, I wish I could get even close to 50,000 miles on a set of tires. Quote

Tires are getting loud, but plenty of tread. New set on rims lurking in basement for winter. Parker, sorry about that post. I specifically looked at my log-in RIGHT before I did post... Quote
scottfromiowa Posted October 18, 2011 Report Posted October 18, 2011 Texas and Florida...O.K. Iowa winter, not so much. That is crazy good life for truck tires. My wife's Tourag already replaced. It is a big heavy pig though...Tourag, not wife Quote
