Age and Belly have caught up with me (well not really - but it is a pain) - so necessity being the motherhood of invention.......

It only fits on the selector one way - the bend in the pipe indicates the position of the selector - works great!!!!

I congratulate you for your ingenuity, never thought about it. I had an M20C before and had the same problem. I used to push back the seat to get access to it, but could be a problem if you have rear passengers. I can't imagine who at Mooney though about this location for a fuel selector. On the M20J the electric gear allows for having the fuel selector where the Johnson bar was located, much more convenient and visible.

In the 3rd hour of a 3.5 to 4 hour flight the bladder objects to switching tanks. :-)  I just might have to make me one of these as well.

Do you have an STC and or PMA for this device?  Otherwise we might not be able to use it in the plane. :-)))

I have a PVC pipe with a slot. I put a cap on the end and added a lanyard. After two years of flying with it, I find it a bit of a pain. The device itself is a simple solution, but where to store it is not. The lanyard was to hang it in a convenient place, but just where that place is escapes me as I have tried many different ones.

I sort of like the semi-permanant solution and I may make one that just stays in there. One thing I know is that it takes very little force to turn the handle and other than getting in and out, a 5"-6'' post would not be much of an inconvenience to work around.

Easy enough to practice while on the ground...

In the air things can get a bit more challenging...

When you have more experience in your bird... you will be watching for air bubbles in the FF indicator while changing tanks.

You get that good after a while!

Best regards,

I could reach the valve on my C, no problem.  The one on my F, however, appears to be farther forward.  I have yet to take delivery on the F, so I might be wrong.

I think it is in the same location. You’ve just gained a few pounds while you are waiting to take delivery.

Could also be the C seat is a bit less padded or has been flattened down.

You might be right.  I am like a kid at Christmas waiting on him to finish.  That anxiety is increasing my appetite.

Don’t go without food while you’re waiting.  You would get really hungry.

He has been flying it to shake it down and has had some minor issues to correct.  The problem is that he spent two weeks at Oshkosh and got hopelessly behind.  He also is doing a prebuy on the C that I am selling, so the buyer is going through kid at Christmas anxiety along with me.  DMax’s work is well worth waiting on, however.

I use the same slotted PVC but I glued a tee on the other end.  The total length is 8".   I velcro it to the top of the nose wheel well.  It is happy as a clam there, always waiting for me next to might right calf, when I need it.   Shown here.
