Hello, I'm new here.  I think an Ovation 2 or 3 is in my future if I can fit into one. I currently fly a 2002 182, I'm 6'6" 210 lbs with 36 inseam. I love the numbers on the Mooney. But would like some thoughts on this plane for a tall guy.

Thanks.

Howdy and welcome.  My father in law is 6'5" and about 260 and he can barely reach the rudder pedals in my M20C (short body) with the seat all the way back.  I don't think you'll have problems having enough room in an Ovation.  The biggest difference for you will be the fact that you climb into a 182 kind of like getting into a mini-van, but you sit down into Mooney very much like a sports car.  In Cessna's your seat is significantly raised off the floor in comparison to a Mooney...

Thanks for the welcome, I live in Lynchburg Va.  Do the seats have adjustments for up and down?  From what I have read the leg room is plenty so now I worry about the head room.

I'm 230, 6' and have no problem in mine. It's a different ride than a 182 - instead of sitting down for dinner the way you do in a Cessna, you nestle into your Mooney, strap it on, and go!

For someone over 6ft tall there is no avantage having vertical adjustable seats. The lowest position is the same as a standard non adjustable seat. Some Mooneys have extended rudder pedals for short pilots. If yours have them you may want to remove the pedal brackets. This will force you to move the seat forward thus allowing more leg room to rear passengers.

Seek out an Ovation in your area and try one on for size.  I'll bet if we know where you are, there will be somone, or someplace here on MooneySpace that can assist you.
