Need help flying my M20C with steam gauges and Johnson bar from Waynesville-St. Robert Regional Airport (KTBN), Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri to Camdenton Memorial-Lake Regional Airport (KOZS), Camdenton, Missouri on a Special Flight Permit for annual inspection.

It’s about a 25-min flight in East Central Missouri. The annual expired while I was serving overseas. I lack the 5 hours Mooney M20 in the preceding 12 months required by my insurance policy.

My insurance policy requires a minimum of
- 300 total  hours,
-    25 hours retract gear,
-    10 hours Mooney M20, and
-      5 hours Mooney M20 in the preceding 12 months.

Thank you,

Bobby

Oasis in Wilmar MN is the closest MSC that I can think of, they might be able to figure this out, you know your airplane, instead of getting a ferry pilot you might think about getting 5h in another M20 instead, food for thought, others will chime in

There’s an MSC in Kansas City (below), but it sounds like he has an existing relationship with a mechanic in Camdenton?

The annual inspection expired, he needs a ferry permit and a pilot to fly it to a shop in KOZS 25 minutes away that he's already arranged for an annual inspection.

That’s right… Either a ferry pilot or 5 hours in a Mooney M20 would solve my immediate problem. I had hoped to receive training from one of the MAPA SF pilots when I attended the Pilot Proficiency Program (PPP) in Branson, MO earlier this month, but that didn’t work out. I’ve taken my Mooney to Maxwell Aviation in Longview, TX. Very happy with Don Maxwell, but already made arrangements with Premier Aviation at Camdenton, MO. Last two (2) annuals were done at Camdenton, but different mechanic. Had a very bad experience with the MSC in Kansas City in 2013. Hopefully, it’s now a new shop with new leasership.

Sounds like you have a local mechanic lined up.  But down the road if you're looking for another MSC, here are a couple from my (old) MSC list.  No idea if they are still in business or specialize in Mooneys any more.

KLXT MO - R&D American Aviation 816.588.2807
KPIA IL -  Byerly Aviation 309.697.6303

Thank you, Pete. I bought my Mooney at Lee’s Summit (KLXT) in 2013. It was poorly maintained, but not sure by whom. Diverted to Peoria (KPIA) one year on our way to Oshkosh. Very nice FBO lounge, but didn’t talk to anyone about maintenance.

Thanks again,

Bobby

Plan is to alternate annuals between Premier Aviation (local) and Maxwell Aviation (MSC). That way, a Mooney expert sees the airplane every other year.

Still needing a pilot? I'm an CFI/ATP/MEL and Commercial SEL and own an M20J (about 200 hours in mine, 1900 hrs TT, ~1000 hrs RG).

Only catch is my Mooney is down for its annual in Tulsa with an unknown return date. Drop me a message and if nobody has helped you out earlier, I might be able to hop up there and give you a hand. I grew up in Columbia so familiar with the area.

If you quote @rakesb, like I just did you, or mention him with an "@" in front of his name he will get notified that you posted on this thread.

Have you looked into getting a ferry permit?  That can be tricky even if your A&P/IA is ready to sign off on the permit it needs the FSDO to approve it as well.

Thank you, fellow Mooney pilots. FAA approved ferry permit and I flew my Mooney from KTBN to KOZS to undergo an annual inspection. Logged the first two landing attempts as TGOs, so I now have three (3) landings for daytime passenger carrying currency. My Mooney is tucked securely into a heated hangar and I’m anxiously awaiting her annual. Please wish me luck. Thanks again.
