SilentT Posted October 7 Report Posted October 7 I need to make an offer on these for my 84J; they were done by Hector What would be a good offer?
201Mooniac Posted October 7 Report Posted October 7 I think you should offer $1 and then tell me who is selling them 1
toto Posted October 7 Report Posted October 7 I have no idea what leather covered J yokes are worth, but they look fantastic.
IvanP Posted October 8 Report Posted October 8 I paid Hector about $1,600 for covering my yokes in 2023 with a similar design. Worth every penny.
201Mooniac Posted October 9 Report Posted October 9 A pair of yokes just sold from BAS (while I was trying to buy them) for $2350 for the pair. Considering that and the $1600 paid to Hector a few years ago, it seems like $4000 is about the price you might expect.
KSMooniac Posted October 9 Report Posted October 9 The inflation is astounding... I think I paid Hector ~$500 to do my pair of yokes in 2009 or 2010 time frame. And I sold J yokes previously for <$1000 a pair. My yokes still look and feel fantastic, BTW.

I remember stations having gas wars across the streets at 10-12¢, with Green Stamps. Then in junior high it went above $1, and the pumps would show prices like 55¢ per half gallon . . . . 2

In December of 1970 during winter break from school, my family and another family, nine of us total, took a road trip from Northern Minnesota to Southern California in two VW Beetles, each with a CB radio installed the night before the trip, along with a top carrier on each car. We ate at many a Taco Bell during our time in California. Hard Shell tacos were $.25 then. The most we paid for gas was $.31/gallon, the least we paid was $.21/gallon. I was 7 yrs old, my oldest brother was 22. We put all of the gas on his Standard Oil credit card. The trip in our car was considerably less than $200 total and that included at least one oil change, maybe two. You could also get a hamburger, small fries and a small Coke at McDonald's and get a few cents change from a dollar. My brother bought an Amoco Gas Station in 1973, just before the Arab Oil Embargo. Gas was about $.30 when he started and in a few months it had doubled and he was buying gas for $.08 a gallon more than the discount station a block away was selling it for. Needless to say, oil changes, tune-ups and brakes jobs kept him open, not gas margins. 1
