toto Posted Saturday at 03:51 PM Report Posted Saturday at 03:51 PM Okay, this is pretty cool. https://flightaware.com/live/flight/N7132V/history/20251002/1530Z/KTCL/KTCL Saw the pilot post on Reddit, but thought this was more properly shared on MS Nicely done 4
N201MKTurbo Posted Saturday at 03:55 PM Report Posted Saturday at 03:55 PM And it was drawn by a Mooney! 2

Ragsf15e Posted Saturday at 05:05 PM Report Posted Saturday at 05:05 PM Holy smokes! Excellent art! 4:30 hours! That took some serious effort!
Marc_B Posted Saturday at 05:33 PM Report Posted Saturday at 05:33 PM I wonder what this looks like in the cockpit…gps coordinates for waypoints? Set up with ForeFlight and pushed to panel? How many waypoints? Pretty cool!

I was kind of hoping the pilot was on MS and could give us a behind-the-scenes view Seems like it would take a lot of work. Here’s the original Reddit post fwiw https://www.reddit.com/r/flying/s/NlwCamvh3k ETA: There’s actually a lot of follow up discussion since I first saw the post earlier today, and the OP gave some details on the process.
Marc_B Posted Saturday at 06:25 PM Report Posted Saturday at 06:25 PM Interesting. Sounds like just used google earth to trace a picture and make a KML file that was uploaded to ForeFlight. Then just hand flew the track shown on ForeFlight.
Hank Posted Saturday at 06:46 PM Report Posted Saturday at 06:46 PM @0TreeLemur, was this you, Fred??? Either way, it's impressive!

Yeah, that method is why I just can't get to enthusiastic about these 'sky images'. Sorry to be the 'wet blanket' but I just don't see how there is much skill involved; hell, just let the AP fly it if you go to the work to load the waypoints into your panel GPS.
N201MKTurbo Posted Sunday at 01:49 AM Report Posted Sunday at 01:49 AM You can just draw lines on ForeFlight map. They stay with the map till you erase them and zoom with the map. After you draw the picture you like, you just follow the lines. I bet if you put in a feature request to turn the lines into waypoints for drawing pictures in the sky, they may do it. Sometimes you just want to waste some avgas boring holes in the sky, might as well make a picture. 1

Pinecone Posted yesterday at 02:51 PM Report Posted yesterday at 02:51 PM My favorite plane drawn by my second favorite plane. And the two planes I have the most time in make/model.

My only A-10 time is when he let me set in the seat and make machine gun noises while I pulled the trigger. 1
Pinecone Posted yesterday at 03:11 PM Report Posted yesterday at 03:11 PM When was he there? Name? I flew the A-10 with MD ANG. And the former squadron commander is about 4 hangers down from me. He has a T-34 and a Bonanza

This would have been in the late 80s his last name was Cherry, first name was either Paul or Dave, I think. I’m real bad with names. He was my step dad’s nephew.

I saw lots of MD ANG, A10 formations perform overhead break approaches in to Martin. Were you there during that time?
Pinecone Posted yesterday at 07:30 PM Report Posted yesterday at 07:30 PM No, I was not longer with them by the early 90s.
