Does anyone have a 12 volt Bendix King  KX-155 NAVCOM in good working condition, including the display, that they would be willing to sell? A friend of mine has one and several of the digits on the display are not working. He doesn’t want to buy a brand new replacement so I’m trying to help him out.

Another option is to repair /replace the screen.  It use to be pretty common. Id think there are still shops that do it?

If you want to buy one you'll need to specify whether you need a 14v or 28v model.

It seems these guys are doing it and selling DIY kit:

https://www.kx155display.com/

It looks like they have original plasma-gas display (I thought it was unobtanium) and new OLED displays. I have no experience with this shop but would love to hear the pirep as I have a  KX165 in my plane...

Pretty weird website, IMHO.  YMMV

Weird website, yes…but those guys know their stuff. Previous owner had my 155 rebuilt there and it looks literally brand new. Truth be told, it’s just a backup for me, but I do use the com when I know I’m on the fringe of a Center segment where my Garmin’s com seems to reach its limit.
Mine has the original style LED, but the new OLED upgrade looks outstanding and in aviation $ seems reasonable. Not sure what he charges for a full overhaul now, but the receipt in my box said $1700 and change about 5 years ago. I have zero doubts it’ll go another 15 years.

Just as a FYI this is not an approved mod from the MFG.  We have seen a couple over the years and we will not even attempt to do a repair as the unit is modified outside MFG specs and no longer matches any approved documentation from the MFG.  Honeywell does have an approved LED mod that is still available to fix display issues experienced with the old gas discharge displays.

Yeah, I have no idea. I just saw that kx155.com was in the footer of the site mentioned above. I have no personal experience with any of them.

I think he may have let his web site certificates expire.  My security software won't let me go there.  I have a phone number so, if I needed him, I would try calling.

Interesting as I have no trouble accessing his site.  I need new security software!

It looks like the cert common name is kx-165.com and it’s a valid cert from Let’s Encrypt.

There may be a SAN entry for kx-155.com that only has the ‘www’ subdomain or something idk

I think just the cert being a different domain is enough to trigger the stop.

That kind of redirect is trivial, and the certificate may be valid, but if he is using a kx-165 cert on his kx-155 domain name, I think my software stops it.

My lack of internet machination knowledge is showing.  What I meant is that if you go to kx-165.com that's the domain that shows but is the identical page that comes up if you go to kx-155.com domain.  Or, are the names directly to the left of the .com not really domains?

Put another way, does your software block going to http://kx-165.com as well as to http://kx-155.com?

Yeah, he's not redirecting - just serving the same WordPress site from both domains.  But there's a lot of cross-site objects loaded from kx-155.com if you go to kx-165.com, which might be causing your security software to panic.
